Mark from Salt Lake City writes: “I saw this set up at a local McDonald’s. They had two GameCube systems, one with Pokemon and one with Smash Bros. Melee. I wish they had a Wii to help me burn the 6000 calories I just downed.”

McDonald’s had a promotion with Nintendo for a while that put Gamcubes in the restaurants right around the launch of the system. I tried that horrid Mickey Mouse game while eating a hash brown once. I doubt very many stores keep them up and running now.

Mickey D’s can suck it. They say that kids are fat because of video game and NOT their food. Whatever.

I didn’t even think to take a pic of the one I saw near my home town. Exact same thing.

@NeuroMan42: In my opinion, kids are fat because their parents let their kids eat McDonald’s (among other fatty foods) every second day. It’s up to said parents to put a stop to that and ensure their children are also getting enough daily exercise. But that’s a totally different topic.
@johnnymilkshark: You’re right; I remember the GCN systems set up around launch time (must… resist urge… to make ‘lunch’ pun). I tried Sonic Adventure 2: Battle and, if I’m not mistaken, Super Smash Bros. Melee while eating a cheeseburger and trying to kill time before I made my way down to the Air Canada Centre (in Toronto, ON, Canada) for a hockey game. In fact, trying out those two games (mostly SSBM) made me come to a decision about whether to pick up a Gamecube or PlayStation 2 for Christmas that year. Ironically enough, when I picked up the Gamecube, I couldn’t find a single copy of SSBM for over a month, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise because a friend of mine gave me a free copy of it as a late Christmas present.
Sorry for going on so much, guys. I’m just surprised at how many memories a GCN system in McDonald’s can bring back. ^^;;

I remember seeing the same thing in a McDonald’s near Hoover Dam years ago, although it was an N64 set-up and they were turned off >=(

My local McD’s has a similar setup with 4 gamecubes, all running some kid-friendly titles, SSB included. But check this out: the UK CEO of McDonald’s is now blaming VIDEOGAMES for obese children!

Imagine that.

You’d be suprised how many Mcs (the ones that still stand since 2002) stilll have those up and running.

My McDonalds has Luigi’s Mansion, Smash Bros, and SSX (for N64).
Yeah. We’re quite with the times.

It’s cool to find these, but I’d never touch one of those controllers. 5+ years of greasy kids playing with them. Yecch!
