This spotting comes from Infendo Reader David. R who claims that his cat has some serious table tilt skills in Wii Fit. However, the “obese” data on the TV isn’t promoting the cat’s two week long workout. Try laying off the catnip, fatty!
JK. We kid the cats…

When the hell did a BMI of 20.76 become obese?
September 6th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
Isa, the BMI of 20.76 has been obese since annorexia and bulemia came into style, in fact, that should be super-obese levels. naturally, the only acceptable BMI would be anything under 5

That cat is NOT obese.
September 6th, 2008 at 4:55 pm
That cat isn’t even fat at all. BS

I can’t see why 20 BMI would be obese, but as far as the cat is concerned, the BMI calculation is based on a human. Also, the owner might have measured the cat head-to-base-of-tail whilst it was on four feet, or even toe-to-shoulder, if they weren’t thinking properly.

what the hell 20-25 bmi is the acceptable level and considered normal and at very low risk for disease that doesnt make any sense

Does any one remember to calculate BMI you also need hight?
Super short- Average weight for anyone else could equal obese?

BMI is retarded to begin with, weight and height tell you nothing about the muscle/fat ratio of the person. When I was in high school and working out 6 days a week, I weighed about 160 pounds. This was probably the best shape of my life. Now, after 2 years of lethargic college, I weigh…160 pounds. My BMI didn’t change, but you can bet I’m nowhere near as healthy now as I was then.

Oh, btw:
BMI Categories:
* Underweight = <18.5
* Normal weight = 18.5-24.9
* Overweight = 25-29.9
* Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater

I think the Obese BMI of 20.76 is based on japanese statistics. My 5′7, 130lb girlfriend was told by wii fit that she was obese. I just don’t think it translates that well to North Americans, who on average are taller and heavier than the japanese.

For what it’s worth, the military doesn’t allow men to have more than 22% body fat or women to have more than 23%. While 22/23% might be healthy by most standards, many older people find it fat.

Whoah. This cat looks a frightening amount like my cat.
