“A delayed game is eventually good; a bad game is bad forever.”
-Shigeru Miyamoto
So true.

Duke Nukem Forever would’ve been game of the century. The complete opposite to Daikatana.

is a genius, and the father of modern day video game. But he is no better than any other close minded and naive japanese, and he is no philosopher neither.
PC gaming proved Shigeru Miyamoto dead wrong in every way imaginable.

Bold statement. Do explain RoyalRook…
June 24th, 2009 at 3:49 pm
I would really like to see an explaination. Thems fightin words!!
June 24th, 2009 at 4:02 pm
Miyamoto, he’s a hero to the industry… let’s give him more medals!
June 24th, 2009 at 6:20 pm
Does it even need to be explained? Just look at all the superior hacked game out there. Contra Hard Corps is impossibly hard and frustrating, but not with quick saves.
The PC mod community is so over the top these days, that it improves and revives both older AND newly released games all the time. You would think…let me see….umm I need a bad game to talk about….(agree or disagree) Puzzle Quest: Galactrix is an obnoxious disaster of a game, especially after been marketed as the spiritual sequel to the critically acclaimed Puzzle Quest: CotW. But after a little twitch of here and there, expand the hex’s boarder a little bit, with some added artworks and sounds, voila, I wouldn’t mind to show off the game to my friends.
Now I personally think, everybody these days with a little bit love and free time are not going to grow up stupid especially in a society like US. So all the developers need to do these days should just push their games out and let the world have fun with the codes. Any things went wrong should be fixed with an official patch to just keep a official standard of the rule. It’s a win win situation, don’t you guys want some forms of NDF in your hands now, instead of waiting forever for the eventual masterpiece?
You know what’s going on right now? There are SOOOO many good games out of there already, it’s more fun to enjoy what you already entitled to, than waiting for someone else’s “masterpiece.”
Alright, alright, one more example since I am having fun with this topic:
Super Smash Bro. Brawl, face it, even after all the delays, technically speaking, it’s a terrible game compared to Melee. It’s slow, shallow and unbalanced. For anyone who learned all the Melee advanced techs, the game is a sham. But once something like Brawl + comes along, everything changed. The gamers can finally enjoy what they have waited all along and got their smash back.

@RoyalRook: your assumption is wrong. If a bad game is released, no one is going to buy it – no modders, no one. People do mod games because they are fun, otherwise it would not be worthwhile. And the reason there is a lot of good games out there is because there are several companies that are doing good games. You don’t have to wait for the next Myamoto masterpiece doing nothing – you can play the plenty of good games already released.
And I agree with Myamoto: a bad game, no matter how many patches it receives latter on, will remain a bad game. If delaying it you can avoid such destiny, so be it. Otherwise the market would be infested with many bad games… oh, wait…
Best!!

@Fabio
I am not the one who is assuming, there are no ifs in my post, and what exact was I assuming? I am just telling you the truth, and facts. Regarding to your little assumption about what if no one is going to buy a bad game(aww that’s cute). Well, that doesn’t stop the millions of collectors from dling those games, or does it? Why would you think they dl those game so diligently? They are doing home works and keeping up with the technologies. You think everybody mod games just for fun? That’s so naive and couldn’t be farther from the truth in practice. I am not saying everybody is the same, but there are always something more, let it be putting another language into practice, or trying to pay back a favor, because simply doing something for fun is no fun.
Anyway, I don’t think you have really read my post anyway, because you basically said the same thing about how many good games out there already as I did. In fact, you just saying I am wrong just for the hell of it anyway.

Too bad they take as long as before and make crap.

Now come on children. If I knew this was going to turn into a bashing comment forum then I shouldn’t of started this feature.
Lets act like mature adults here.

nice post.
at first I wasn’t happy about The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
We all had to wait like… 3 years for it to come since the day it was announced. But right now I’m so glad it had so much quality, because I remember all the new things that came with it, I would like for the next Zelda to be that way, innovative, great graphics, great story, a lot of replay value and new feelings every time.
With new technologies it shouldn’t be that way. Because games can be patched, demos can be released and tested one million times and feedback can be sent online. But Nintendo can’t act that way because of it’s secrecy, and closed source.
anyway, time changes and it’s all right.

Royal Rook, your dreaming pal. Miyamoto is and always will be the best that ever lived. say what you say, I ain’t listening to your bullshit. Miyamoto is the definition of video games. you must be a pretty arrogant guy. no i don’t read your shit

Quote from a Nintendo era long gone….
Nice pic btw
June 25th, 2009 at 2:17 pm
@RoyalRook You are assuming that if a bad game is release it will be fixed, if not by the company that created it by the modders. Sorry if you like to fool yourself, but I would not bet my money on a game that is released bad. And the good games out there took long to be developed – they were not rushed games. If they were, you can bet they would not be good.
June 25th, 2009 at 5:10 pm
Shigeru-san is a genius and very wise!
June 25th, 2009 at 6:35 pm
@Fabio
I thought Mortal Kombat was pretty good. I wonder if people liked that rushed game or not. I heard it was really popular and stuff. But, I wouldn’t know anything about that.
Why wait when you can fix yourself? Sins of a Solar Empire is not much, but you can play around with it forever. Another game developed under 1 million dollars but sold 500K within its first week (or month?) of release. I have my very own mod versions of Galactrix, I did it b/c I spent 20 bucks over Impulse to get that crappy game. Doesn’t took me much to edit the Lua files, but there is no way in hell I should program the whole thing by myself(unless I got no life).
June 26th, 2009 at 12:20 am
So… This is my understanding of what Rook’s trying to say. The game developers shouldn’t worry about making a well-made game, bug checked and all the works, and just release it. That way, only a select group of people who know code and are tech savvy enough to tweak it- so they can fix it up however they like, while others who don’t have that luxury of knowing code are just left with a terrible game?
Also, you assume that everyone has internet cables (and decently fast internet) that will allow them to download the patches to “fix” the game… especially a game that shouldn’t have had such a quality problem in the first place?
I’m sorry. It’s simply not logical for them to alienate the vast majority of their audience of gamers from having a quality game from the get go. Too many people would simply not buy a game that isn’t worth the money they just spent on it, nor would they want to suddenly have a requirement of knowing code just to enjoy a game. It would not be a good business move at all.
I pay $30-$60 for games, because I expect them to quality check their bugs and issues, and present an awesome product that their consumer will enjoy without having to fix something that shouldn’t have to be purchased already broken.
I’m not really sure how to end this, but simply say that I would rather wait for them to ensure quality gameplay.

…FAIL. YOU. FAIL. BRAWL VERY GOOD GAME. BETTER THAN MELEE. USE GAMECUBE SETUP IF YOU THINK WAVEDASH HARDER WITH NEW CONTROL. GAME NO SHAM, GAME FUCKING AWESOME! YOU GO PLAY WITH PC GAME NOW, WHILE LITE HULK WORSHIP SHIGGY FOR SOUND ADVICE!!
June 28th, 2009 at 12:30 am
Aah, Miyamoto. Quite possibly one of the most true things he has said ever.
June 28th, 2009 at 3:50 pm
@Lite
Umm you do know that you can’t wavedash in Brawl right? In Brawl, you can’t change your momentums with air dodge like it was in Melee. Do you even know how wavedash works? Lite, stop embarrassing yourself, you are acting like a tool.
June 29th, 2009 at 12:26 am
@ RoyalRook:
Yeah I know what wavedashing is, but it’s a comepletely useless skill.
June 29th, 2009 at 1:17 am
@Lite
There is truly no limit for your legacy man. I am floored. We are not even in the same level, you are just way too much for me.
June 29th, 2009 at 3:23 pm
@ RoyalRook:
Hey, hey, hey, now, just because I find some skill that is at best classified as a glitch useless and don’t mind it not being in Brawl doesn’t mean anything.
July 2nd, 2009 at 10:46 am
And so my post is ignored? To “argue” with someone who didn’t even address what you actually said?
And while we’re on the subject of Brawl, Rook, why is it such a terrible game? What is it exactly that makes it slow, shallow, and unbalanced? I genuinely would like to know your reasons. The only aspect of gameplay I found unbalanced was perhaps the Final Smashes – but even so, skill of the player can make up for those shortcomings, if any.
