Nintendo Power Reveals New Wiimote Button?

I don’t know how I missed this one, but the last (August) issue of Nintendo Power features the above picture of a girl holding a black wiimote with a mysterious blue button on the side. Z button a la GameCube’s controller maybe?

I have that issue (it’s the one with the big, red hand holding a Wii Remote on the cover). It definitely looks like something resembling a Z button. Other places in the same issue (page 55) show a white controller with a more rectanglur sensor at the front of the Remote and a Red Steel picture (top of page 57) show another Remote with a round sensor instead.

I think we’ll see lots of variations on the Remote until September rolls around and we (hopefully) can stop speculating! Until then, we’ll have to keep taking EVERYTHING (including the latest article about the Remote at IGN) with several grains of salt.

At the same time, I’m going to slightly miss the guessing game Nintendo has us hooked into. Slightly.

I’ve been talking to my friends about this since we got the issue. We’ve decided that it’s either:

    1) A flash from the camera (in other pics in the mag there are glares at other places on it).

    2) The volume control for the speaker (Although I’m not sure if the dev controllers have them).

I have wondered how we’ll control the volume since E3. That is my most logical answer to what that is.

Or it could be an extra button for when you are holding the controller sideways. I was thinking that they should add shoulder buttons.

Could it be an SD memory card in a slot on the controller?

just thought i’d note that the shoulder button theory should be out, because that button would be on the bottom of the controller making no sense. the volume control for the speaker makes since, as the noises aren’t required for a game but do make them better.

I’m almost certain that that is NOT a new button. Nintendo has been trying EXTREMELY hard to make a sleek and cool-looking system. Now, look at the “new controller” represented in this pic. Are we supposed to believe that this beautifully designed black wiimote now suddenly has a purple button sticking out the side of it? A PURPLE button? If this was a REAL button, we wouldn’t have noticed it, because it would’ve been BLACK.

    Its not a button…

Its a blue sticker with an ID no. used to identify the different prototype dev. systems + controllers…

Why would Nintendo put an ugly BLUE button on a beautiful BLACK (dev. system) controller?

Prick your thumb tip on the button to get instant doses of amphetamines!!!

This is regarding the poll, it’s fucked up and you can only choose the last alternative in Opera. Change to a poll system which isn’t broken.
