Nintendo Power calls Metroid 3 “Incorruptible”

Saturday, August 25th, 2007 at 12:27pm by Boss Hog

i_12811.jpgFrom the 10/10 review…

Since its introduction, gamers have seen great potential in the Wii remote as a natural controller for first-person action games. But while several titles have pulled off the method adequately, Corruption is the first that doesn’t leave any room for you to consider whether it would be better with a traditional controller…. the system works impeccably… this is the title that gamers have been waiting for.

And there you have it.

    That is good news.
But, of course, Nintendo Power is a biased source.
I have great faith in this game, and can not wait to play it.
    Soon !

Well, in an EB games not far from my house. There works a man who says he is friends with a Ninty rep. (or so he says). But I believe him, why else would he have a playable demo in just his store or MP3? So ya I got to play it for about 10mins yesterday. It’s damn good.

I don’t know really how biased NP is, actually. VERY few games of theirs get perfect scores at all, and there are some mascot games out there that have received less than favorable reviews before.

Not saying that they’re not into their own games, but they grade extremely harshly, so a 10 really does say something.

You don’t know how biased a magazine called “Nintendo Power” is towards games for Nintendo systems? Come on….

Nintendo Power is just as biased as the official Xbox and PlayStation magazines are. By its very nature, it’s biased because they only review and cover games for Nintendo. They don’t have to hand out perfect scores for it to be biased.

Having said all that, they may be 100% correct, but they are biased. No more and no less than the other mags.

There is a Wii-k in review at IGN that talks a bit about the game, they seem to really like it too.

  6. lyskan says...

Nintendo Power isn’t all biased. Mario Party 8 got like 7 or 8/10. I thought it was better. Diddy Kong Racing didn’t do too good either.

I just got back from playing for over two hours at our Gamestop. Then I pre-ordered. Definitely a must-buy game for anyone with a wii.

NP may be a biased source, but I have a remedy: For every game that is either published or made by Nintendo, take off one point. This seems to work every time to get accurate reviews. Of course, this doesn’t work when the game actually DOES deserve a 10, but…

Another note: back when they had Giancarlo V. (best NP writer since Steven Grimm, in my opinion), Giancarlo’s reviews were not biased in any way. So if you’re reading an issue from a couple months ago, look at the writer.

  9. David says...

Yeah, did Giancarlo get sacked already?

    DO WANT

I don’t think Nintendo is being biased with this particular review here. The last 2 Metroid Prime were a testament of good game-making. I’m going for it!

  12. droop4 says...

Well, based on the fact that the last 10 on NP was RE4 for the CUBE, and that not even zelda TP or super paper mario, i dont think they favor nintendo publised games as bad as ps mag, who gave liar an 8.5(?) while a popular website gave it a 6.5… or so i heard.

  13. KillerHeroes says...

Nintendo Power has only given perfect scores to two games in their history – Resident Evil 4 and Metroid Prime – both of which are very deserving of 10s. Not even the venerable Ocarina of Time received a perfect score. Their reviews of big Nintendo games are in accordance with the average score from other review sites. I don’t think their review of Metroid Prime 3 is any less respectable just because it came from a magazine that focuses on Nintendo. If anyone is bias, it’s sites like GameSpot and 1Up who seem to harbor a bitterness towards Nintendo and its games ever since the Wii was introduced.

  14. Stan says...

Okay, Nintendo Power is named such because they only cover games that are Nintendo. Just like how this website is named “Infendo” and only covers Nintendo news. However, I know for a fact that Scott and Blake and the whole cast of Infendo play other games. Just because they write for a Nintendo site doesn’t mean they say “Screw that game, it’s not Nintendo.” The same holds true for Nintendo Power. I don’t appreciate how everyone says they are biased because they do their jobs. Because we are all biased in our own ways, so saying someone is unreliable because of such opinions is infuriating.

  15. rokerovakero says...

I’m gonna get this game even if it gets 1.5/10. I’m sure 1up will give it something around a 7.5 and 8.0…

  16. deepthought says...

Saw it at PAX & it was solid. Although, I’m not sure whether I want to say evolution or revolution here. Mostly, I’m still a bit let down by how the graphics stack up against other next gen games. at least we’ll have the triumph of solid gameplay here.

  17. Derek B. says...

Hey guys, bad news. 1up just called. They said they’re not even going to bother reviewing it because it’s the worst game they’ve ever played.

  18. KLJ says...

It is kind of strange that they have people that hate Nintendo reviewing games for their systems on sites like GameSpot and 1Up, but i guess it’s because they are graphic whores.

  19. BlockSS says...

The way its going on IGN it looks like it will be a 10/10

  20. Alcorr says...

Lol, better than a traditional controller. Like those are worth anything compared to a mouse and keyboard.

  21. Fairlady Z says...

Hey Alcorr, great point. As soon as Metroid Prime 3 comes out for PC you be sure to let us all know! THANX

so the humble wii is the closest to a pc mouse/keyboard interface.
    ffs
    why cant i use a mouse/keyboard on the ps3 or 360?
    LOSERS.

  25. InvisibleMan says...

Well, the IGN review is in, and they gave it a 9.5

Quite good, but why didn’t they give it a 10?? Anti-Nintendoans, I say!

OK, I’m just kidding… they did give it a 9.5, and they can’t say enough nice things about it. Even on the graphics department they said the game looks fantastic, and that this is the title that finally takes advantage of the Wii graphics engine.

Not that I wasn’t going to get this game regardless of the critics’ opinions…

  26. bsides says...

Nice score. I’m crazy about this game… I even bough the Virtual Consoles’ Metroid, Super Metroid and the prime Gamecube ones. This title will rock the shelves! :)
