Nintendo news round-up: Wii console and game price drops, Humble Bundle, Wii Play: Motion and more

– Within the past week, major retailers such as Amazon, Target, GameStop, and Wal-Mart quietly dropped the price of the latest Wii bundle (which includes Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort, a MotionPlus remote, and Nunchuk) from $199.99 to $169.99. If you’re reading this site yet somehow still don’t own a Wii, it looks like there couldn’t be a better time to finally get your hands on one and be the envy of all your early-adopting friends. – Speaking of price drops, if you’re like many of us, you may have picked up Wii Sports Resort to take a stab at the MotionPlus technology. But for those who have held off, both Wii Sports Resort and Wii Party have dropped in price to $39.99. There’s a party in your wallet and Nintendo hopes they’re invited. (Press Release)

– Did you enjoy the Humble Indie Bundles? They were a great opportunity to pick up a slew of great games for whatever price you felt was fair, with the proceeds donated to charity and developers as you deemed fit. There are just a few days left to grab the Humble Frozenbyte Bundle. Check out the games and if you have some spare change, consider donating them to a great cause and getting some free game downloads to boot. With the Humble Bundles, it really is better to give than to receive. (Humble Bundle)

– According to Nintendo, this was the best March in U.S. history for the portable hardware business. We have the 3DS, DS, and Pokémaniacs to thank for that. The press release states that “After only one week on sale following its March 27 launch, Nintendo 3DS sold just shy of 400,000 units. Propelled by sales of more than 1.3 million Pokémonâ„¢ White Version games and more than 1.1 million Pokémonâ„¢ Black Version games, the Nintendo DS family of systems topped all home and portable video game systems in March, with more than 460,000 sold.”

Not only that, but it looks like Nintendo is finally gearing up to give the MotionPlus more time in the spotlight:  “Nintendo’s Wiiâ„¢ console sold more than 290,000 in the United States in March, giving Nintendo combined hardware sales of more than 1.1 million for the month. The upcoming Wii Playâ„¢: Motion game launches on June 13 and will have players smiling as they use their Wii Remoteâ„¢ Plus controller (or Wii Remoteâ„¢ with Wii MotionPlusâ„¢ accessory) in 12 new motion-controlled games. Wii Play: Motion comes packaged with a black Wii Remote Plus controller to deliver great value, precise motion control and immersive social fun that anyone in the household can pick up and instantly enjoy.” (Press Release)
