Nintendo has thrown down the gauntlet for Mario Kart® Wii racers worldwide. Now it’s time to see who’s up to the challenge, as players take on the world in Mario Kart Wii Tournaments.
Every few weeks, a new tournament will appear on the Mario Kart Channel, an online feature that not only allows players to compete in tournaments, but also exchange race data with friends. Tournaments might take the form of a challenge for players to race a certain course as fast as they can with specific characters, or to collect a number of coins on a course using the Wii Wheelâ„¢ accessory or another control setup. They can feature unique rules or obstacles on the course.
The first tournament, which appears today, directs racers to compete for the fastest time on the Mario Circuit. Look closely though – something may be different. Players can attempt the challenge as often as they like during the duration of the tournament. Their best time will be recorded and added to the worldwide rankings, allowing players to see how they stack up against the best racers from around the world.

While this is really exciting to see, it is also disappointing this same feature wasn’t included in Brawl.
I agree with Dustin. Why, why, WHY???? couldn’t Nintendo have given Brawl a halfway decent online component?
It’s a friggen tragedy.
I have been so happy with MK’s online features. On the whole I have always been more of a Kart fan that a Smash fan so this is just great for me.
On a side note, after playing flawlessly on Kart for several hours online, I made an attempt to get on Brawl with a friend who just picked it up. I couldn’t even get connected to WFC. I just don’t understand how the online can be so drastically different from one title to another.
I heard you have to compete w/ AI racers to make the time…if so, that’s a little ridiculous.
Why is it ridiculous?

It’s not ridiculous, but you have to try a hundred times or be very lucky to get a clean time.
But yeah, fun stuff, keep these things coming, nintendo.

I only sent in one score so far and I think Nintendo could do some work to improve it. One thing for certain is set up a ranked tournament similar to NASCAR or something. That would be interesting instead of just doing a time trial. Another thing to expand upon this would be to run multiple tournaments at once.
Even offer prizes to the top player such as maybe a new character, kart, or even a prize for a free game from the shop channel.
Considering how fun MKWii’s online is, maybe offer an update as well for Brawl and give a new option to organize tournaments. Also it would be nice to see official Nintendo Tournaments in brawl for various prizes such as trophies, stickers, maybe new stage constructor parts. But there is so much potential for the tournament in Mario Kart.
