The graphics look a bit.. generic, but otherwise this looks like a fun time. I wish they would make a new Super Mario 3. These “New” Super Mario Bros. are too simplified.
I don’t like the name of the game and I wish there were others characters instead of two boring generic Toads. The D-pad on the wiimote should be the same size as the one on SNES if it’s gonna be comfortable for playing a platform game! But the game still looks like fun. I will at least try it.
I was talking about how great of an idea New SMB would be on the Wii about 2 weeks ago, so I’m really looking forward to this, mostly because I am no longer a big DS gamer. I played New SMB DS to death for countless hours, so I will no doubt do the same on the Wii.
Not to sure on the multiplayer aspect, though. I agree with others that I’ve read commenting that the generic Toad characters stink. I hope there will either be other characters to unlock, or downloadable content via WiiWare. Let people play as Yoshi, Peach, etc. Why not?! Make it more like Super Mario Bros. 2.
@Mattiac:
Hopefully you know that this game isn’t done yet.
2 Toad characters were probably what the dev team had available at the time for the people to play.
I’ll bet you there’s going to be a lot more characters to play with.
And yeah, sometimes the game titles do change!
Take Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story, for example.
That was originally named Mario & Luigi RPG 3 last year when it was announced.
Did they say whether it would or wouldn’t be a Wifi game? Either way I’ll be getting this. My son and I will have a great time playing this together, as well as his friends when they come over. Great addition to the Wii lineup.
I think it”s awesome! Having a Wii version of them DS classic is something I had wanted for a long time. I am more excited about this than Galaxy 2! Go Nintendo!
It’s pretty cool to see Nintendo paying tribute to the older Marios by releasing this game. I’ve been telling my friends for a while… just because we can do 3D doesn’t mean we can’t have 2D games anymore. Glad to see Nintendo is releasing something like this.
Visually and audio-wise (especially when compared to, say, Super Mario Galaxy) it’s a little tame, but this and the SMG2 announcement were my highlights of the show.
Looks awesome… but wiiware? Hells no! The size limit for wiiware games is frikkin tiny. This would be a short short game if it came out on wiiware – on a disc we can hope for a SM World sized epic… we can hope.
I agree with the comment about Worldwide Play. come on Nintendo!!! this game would be amazing if you could battle other people from all of the world in the way you could locally on the DS version.

Not at all interested in the multiplayer, but I’m happy to see the traditional single-player mode seems to be in tact. Now I’m pumped for it.

I think this has some great potential, I’m glad they didn’t go the Zelda Four Swords route and require three DS’s to play the multiplayer.
I agree, online 4-player co-op but also with WiiSpeak support would be wickedly cool. I can only hope that gets added by this Fall.
Loved the DS game, this can only be good times ahead.

Little Big Planet vibe with the multiplayer. Looks sweet.
