N64 games are on their way to the Wii U Virtual Console

That’s right, folks, Nintendo 64 games are officially coming to the Wii U eShop. A subtle change to Nintendo’s Wii U Virtual Console page hints at “the future addition of titles from the…Nintendo 64.” The only caveat? We have no idea when this will actually happen. I mentioned this was a subtle update, which suggests that the launch of N64 games on Wii U is still a ways away, and Nintendo is in no rush to make a big deal out of it.

In the meantime, let’s dream of the fantastic games we’ll eventually be playing on our Wii U’s, shall we? I’m stoked for Mario Kart 64 and 1080° Snowboarding in particular, both of which I’ll be able to download at a discounted price. What are you looking forward to playing?

Thanks to Eric for the tip.

MMMM. None. Mario Kart 8 is awesome. I’ve got 1080 on the Wii and the memories were much better than the modern reality. One or two more games like Mario 8 and the Wii U will be worth owning. Really, 5 amazing games games with replay value (fun w/friends) and the system is a bargain. Most people don’t think that way and Nintendo would probably go bankrupt if that were most people’s philosophy, but it’s true nonetheless.

If most people don’t think that way, then it isn’t true.

I loved Blast Corps. That was a really fun game to play and a cool concept.

    Lou,

Huh? You’re not ordinarily the herd type.

It’s retail – the consumers are always right. No one is buying a Wii U for the console. Some people are buying it to play MK8, but the console isn’t selling itself.

Sadly, the 3DS is also badly trailing the original DS in sales. Nintendo needs to stop the stupid gimmicks and get back to affordable – yet quality – hardware.

He wasn’t saying Nintendo was going to succeed (he implied the opposite, actually) just that the system is worth owning even if just for a half-dozen quality games. That’s a matter of personal finance, but I’m in agreement.

Yeah, actually I said it was worth owning (for me) if they had 6 quality games like MK8. I didn’t say Nintendo was going to succeed as a company. They’re not at this rate. But for 500 bucks you can get a lot of entertainment bang. I’ve owned a PS4 since launch and I’ve purchased one game. If I only purchased one more game (the sequel) I’d be fine with my cash outlay. It will have literally provided me with a 1000+ hours of enjoyment for 500 bucks. That’s .50 an hour. It cost me twice as much to play pac-man in the arcade when I was a kid.

I’d probably snag the original Smash Bros., Bomberman (Hero was my particular favorite), and perhaps the original Paper Mario.

I’m pretty hyped for this, yet another boon for owning the console. And now we’ve got possible DS Virtual Console on the way, as well, with Brain Training showing up in Japan.
