[There are 15 new challengers in Super Smash Bros Brawl. This series will feature each new contender and rank them on their fighting potential with the Infendo Smash-O-Meter! The Smash-O-Meter measures each character (on a scale of 0 to 300) on their uniqueness and potential as a great Brawler. Spoilers are present, so be careful if you wish to remain unspoilt. Big thanks to today’s guest writer: Will]

Pikmin & Olimar
Captain Olimar, the hard working employee of Hocotate Freight Company, is a person who knows no equal in dedication. Risking his life he flies into the vast reaches of space with his trusty ship known as the Dolphin. Leaving his family behind, his Wife and a Son, he ventures forth in search of treasure that could save the company he works for. However, tragedy strikes and he is forced to crash land on a strange planet that is covered in vast lush forests. After his crash he soon finds a weird life form which he names a Pikmin, because it reminds him of pikpik carrots from his home planet.
Games:
Pikmin , Pikmin 2
Pikmin are an amazing species found on the planet he crash landed on. They seem to be the prey to predators that live there. In groups they are very strong and can take out most predators that live on that planet. Olimar knowing this uses the Pikmin to fight creatures almost 5-10 times his size. So in the Smash Bros Stadium, a wave of Pikmin might be the only thing he needs to win.

Will tiny Olimar and his Pikmin be able to to make an impact in the humongous world of Smash Bros?

I gotta admit, this surprised me, but I’m not complaining. Olimar’s gonna be unique.
PS: He has a daughter too.

What’s a “Smash-O-Meter?”

*pinches forehead*

Loknar – it’s like a rating of how good they think the character is, out of a total possible score of 300. So 260 out of 300 is pretty good.
Personally I’m not that excited by Olimar, partially because I didn’t ever really get into the Pikmin games.

Hmmm, I wonder who will be 300 on the smash-o-meter. Pit? Diddy Kong? Zero Suit Samus?

Using him on Brawl is practically a challenge: He needs to have Pikmin available to do anything, including Smash Attacks, you need to be familiar with the pikmin themselves, since each one has a unique characteristic. Not to mention his normal range’s kinda questionable…

I make the suggestion that we ban Nintendo Hater’s IP.

I only realized just the other day that Olimar is seriously one of the only “father” heros I know of in the videogame world. He’s a hardworking, brave, dedicated familyman.
Compared to other videogame heros…
Mario: Has rich princess girlfriend(?), supposedly does plumbing-work with brother Luigi.
Donkey Kong: Loafs around in the jungle with a mediocre music career and guards his banana hoard.
Link: All the ladies want him, but is just too busy saving the world and having weird dreams to be ensnared.
These guys are all bachelors.
Everybody has girlfriends or other…odd acquaintances (Candy Kong? *shivers*). Seems like Olimar’s the only guy that actually got around to getting married and having a family.
Olimar is seriously the only married videogame hero around that immediately comes to mind. What’s the deal?
Maybe nobody else thinks this is interesting, but are there any other notable married videogame heros?

When the angel becomes human at the end of Soul Blazer (SNES), you assume he marries the girl. That kind of works, right?
Meh, I’m at a loss too.

In response to -_Q’s last question. Yes. Crono & Marle get married at the end of Chrono Trigger. (SNES)
