Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games – new for DS & Wii

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007 at 11:31am by Staff

While I can’t say the title they chose is very exciting, this announcement is pretty big.

SEGA® Corporation and Nintendo Co. Ltd. today made a historical announcement that two of the biggest icons in the entertainment industry, Mario™ and Sonic™, are joining forces to star in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games. Developed for the Wii™ video game system and the Nintendo DS™ system, this momentous agreement marks the first time these two renowned stars have appeared together in a game.

Published by SEGA across Europe and North America, and published by Nintendo in the Japanese market, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games will be available for Holiday 2007 and is licensed through a worldwide partnership with International Sports Multimedia (ISM), the exclusive interactive entertainment software licensee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

An official Olympics game with Nintendo and SEGA characters sounds like a gold medal idea to me. How can they avoid screwing up this title?

How can they avoid screwing this up?

Simple: don’t allow SEGA or Sonic Team to do ANY development on the title whatsoever. Otherwise, it will suck.

You guys should have put up that Mario and Sonic image thats floating around instead of the Olympic rings, thats poop on a stick right thur.

    anyways…

lol sweet I have wanted Mario and Sonic to team up since I was a kid, before the NGC games who ever thought a Sonic game would be on a Nintendo system let alone teamed up together in a game! I was hoping for something better then Mario and Sonic do the Olympics but it’s a start.

This is proof positive that Wii might be more successful then PS3 or 360 simply becuase back during Sega’s Genesis life cycle to the Saturn to Dreamcast it was Sega against Nintendo. It was said, “Sega would never do a Nintendo game, and Sonic would never be in a Nintendo game, NEVER!!!” Back then it was the battle between Sega and Nintendo. Sega now makes games for Nintendo, as a Nintendo fan boy all I can say is “how sweet it is.” Granted 360 and PS3 are not going down hill (just yet anyway) but with Sega as strong as it was it just goes to show how anything can happen and this Wii honeymoon thing is all pathetic hearsay and speculation.

All Wii/360/PS3 arguments always have the same questions answers from fanboys and non fanboys, the debates are getting lame because its the same questions and answers over and over and over again, no new thoughts, no new debates, its simply angry fanboys – non fanboys or neutral fanboys – non fanboys.

Sega worked with Nintendo on FX Zero GX. If its the same team working on this as it was for that, I will be a happy happy man.

Provided this isn’t a joke, I can go on with my comment.

Funny thing, I sent in a letter to Nintendo ’bout… 8 years ago suggesting a Mario Olympics to be created. And they wrote me back replying that games can take millions and sometimes billions of dollars (which is a load of bull, the billions that is) and that it just wasn’t in the cards for Mario and Nintendo. Guess it was!

yes, let us hope that NINTENDO is in fact developing the game, and that somehow it approaches a Wii Sports-like level of insane fun.

Wii Sports is a GREAT game.

So , now, imagine a Wii Sports title only with better visuals, more events and with SEGA and Nintendo’s top franchises characters at your command.

    Sounds like a good idea.
Afterall who the hell doesnt love Wii sports? I want more of this, and it sounds like this game will be my fix!

    I’m sold.

Not only does this look to be the ultimate sports game EVAR its also solid proof Sonic will be in brawl.
