Mario Marathon After Unlocking Luigi

Mario Marathon, the epic gaming weekend of fund raising proportions is now over. In the end they raised over 11,142.50$ for Penny Arcade’s charity Child’s Play. The group of gamers Brian, John, and Dan completed Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 2, Super Mario Bros 3, Super Mario World, Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and completed Super Mario Galaxy with a 120 stars in just under 58 hours. Which is an amazing feat within itself, but even more amazing was the amount of money that they raised!

The group started gaming on Friday (6/27) at 3pm and ended Monday (6/30) at 12:30am. Congratulations to them and their gaming exploits, also a quick special thanks to Brian’s Wife for putting up with them, Couch Dog, Slouch Guy, Blanket Girl, Baby Mario, and all the other people who contributed to this weekend of gaming goodness. We at Infendo wish you good luck and best wishes in any further exploits of sleep deprived marathon gaming you guys might do in the future.

They raised 11k for charity and rickrolled 3,000 people. Good times.

I watched way more of that marathon than I ever expected to… I feel like I know those guys!

Gah! No one else considers Yoshi’s Island main series? It’s full title is “Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island”. Oh well. Most impressive in any case.

There was rickrolling? That’s fun, I missed that.

elmer, although SMW2 is a wonderful game, it isn’t exactly a Mario game. It’s more of a yoshi game. Ergo, I think it’s OK that they skipped it.

What a fun idea! Wish I had time to do that…

Nice job Mario Marathoners. It was cool to hear you talk about Infendo during the marathon this weekend [during Sunshine].

    Next marathon suggestion: Pikmin

Nice job. I think they should have played the “real” Super Mario Bros 2. as well, but still that many Mario games in that time is crazy.

  6. elmer says:

True enough. Although this does beg the question, what qualify’s as main series?

I’d personally count Yoshi’s Island, but not Yoshi’s Story, and I’d be tempted to count Super Mario Land, Super Mario Land 2, Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins, Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 (though not it’s Wario sequels) and New Super Mario Bros.

And what of the progenitor Donkey Kong games? They were platformers. How about Donkey Kong (Game Boy)? That was a full on platform/puzzle game starring Mario navigating his way through a slew of worlds.

    @elmer

The “true” Super Mario series has always been on the consoles.

SMB, SMB2, SMB3, SMW, SM64, SMS, SMG. That’s the essential Mario, Miyamoto series. Everything else is just…well, spin-offs and handheld experiments.

  8. Joltman says:

Maybe this site should do something similar, say, all the LoZ games, for charity as well.

    Madden Marathon ftw.
