The NPD released their software sales data for the month of May 2014 yesterday, and Mario Kart 8 made some noise. The eighth iteration in the popular kart racing franchise was the second best selling game last month, finishing behind the multiplatform Ubisoft title, Watch_Dogs. The results to last month’s NPD is a bit surprising on Mario Kart 8’s behalf, as the game was out for only two days in May. Still, for a short amount of time on store shelves in May it’s still an impressive feat for both Nintendo and the Mario Kart franchise.

The other Nintendo title to crack the top ten for May 2014 was Kirby: Triple Deluxe for the 3DS.
