Gradius resurfaces as WiiWare title

More retro non-remake goodness this morning as Konami says it will release Gradius Rebirth on Nintendo’s WiiWare service this summer. It’s Japan only for now, but how much translation does a side-scrolling shooter really require? Any other 1980’s NES games need a completely new version for 2008?

I’d kill for a new 2D Double Dragon or River City Ransom.

Awesome. Gradius 5 was god, but it was quite a departure from the rest of the series. However I think you should be asking if there’s other 80’s arcade games needing new versions

But who determines when a game will come out on the Wiiware? The article says that Konami will release the game, but isn’t it really up to Nintendo as to which games will actually be released? Just becasue Konami (or whichever company) releases a game to the Wiiware, couldn’t we still end up waiting lots of additional months to see the game be released by the big N?

AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS IS BETTER NEWS THAN ANYTHING THAT CAME OUT OF E3!
SPEED UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gradius is boring stuff. Though I’d kill for Konami to finally make that Axelay sequel for Wiiware they promised all those agonizing years ago. And I dunno. If Mega Man 9 sells enough for Capcom, then how’s about a *true* follow-up to the Ghosts’n Ghouls series?

AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IS DAMN RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Peshue is right Gradius V on PS2 was amazing. The best shooter ever imo. However it did have its differences from the previous games. Now I’m just full of questions: Is it just the first game with semi-updated graphics? Is Treasure involved? Two player simultaneous? What’s up with that power up meter?
- As for new versions of River City Ransom and Double Dragon, that has been done for gba already. They were stupendous. Just port those to VC, but add co-op to RCR for heavens sake!
Anyway this is just great… I will be anticipating this game and getting disapointed every Monday all summer long. Waiting for WiiWare Tetris was bad enough.

Gradius is boring stuff? Axelay is somehow better? Hmmm… I’m trying not to go all internet trash talkie on you doc-bungle. Oh well to each his own… I guess…

Sorry about that I tried my best to remain dignified. FAIL!

Well Mr. “Gradius is boring stuff” - Let the flame wars begin! Anyone who claims that Gradius is boring stuff is either a completely lame boring person or too dumb and lousy at video games to play a challenging game like Gradius and enjoy it. It must be the former since you play Axelay. The only fun parts in Axelay are the Gradius-like side scrolling levels anyway. Your parents must be lesbians for you to say something so stupid. How can anyone enjoy Axelay but not Gradius? Gradius is Axelay’s wise grandfather. If you weren’t so busy a’ whackin’ it to gay poop porn you would know that.

Same to you sir.

Gradius is so not boring stuff, but not everyone loves schmups like I do. Gradius V rocked. Gradius III on the SNES also rocked.
Now that Sega is releasing Thunderforce 6, and seems to be promising more space shooters; I have even more shoot em up bliss to look forward to!

Gradius is awesome, so is R-Type, Life Force, 1943 and any other shooter (top or side scroller) that has the same quality of level design and fun factor. It just has to be your cup of tea. I say they bring back some 3-D World Runner using the motion plus (or zapper depending on what type of weapons and upgrades being used in the game) and balance board. They could even pack in some Wii 3-D glasses to add to the clutter
Also some City Connection would rock….um that was a joke if any of you remember that game.
