Um, it wasn’t called the SNES 2 or the NES 2. That would imply that they are running on entirely brand new chipsets that expand the systems performance which they clearly didn’t so it’s not called the SNES 2 or NES 2.
In fact the NES 2 was called the top loading NES. I know I have one as well as the front loader. There was no name for the SNES ‘2′ except the SNES or Super Nintendo.
Further facts to back up my point. When SOny released the PSone they didn’t call it the PS2 or the PS-X 2 or anything like that they called it by it’s common title of the PSone implying that it is first gen tech for the Playstation line but it wasn’t a step up at all. Just like they didn’t call the PS2 slim the PS3 and the newer slim model being the PS4 and the real PS3 being PS5. But no they stuck to the following:
PS-X – The old thick model
PSone – The small one that’s easily breakable.
PS2 – That hulking beast of a machine
PS2 slim – The first slimmed down redesign of the system
PS2 slimmer – The second slimming redesign of the PS2
PS3 – The third evolution of the PlayStation system
Then there’s also the PSP. The slim release isn’t called the PSP 2 is it? no it’s called the PSP slim because it didn’t really do anything to improve the existing chipset of the system to output greater visuals.
Therefore the SNES 2 can not be called the SNES 2, more like an SNES Slim model and a top-loading NES.
I used to own both second model systems. At the bottom of the NES I remember it saying “NES – 002″. Labeling it the second model, easily making it two even though it was commonly referred to as the “NES 2″. It’s similar to how saying Dolphin can refer to the Gamecube and Revolution for the Wii. Both systems model numbers are “dol” short for dolphin and “Rev” short for revolution. We do not call the Wii the Revolution, but the model number and its’ history could allow for us to call it the Revolution even though it’s the Wii.
you could call it nes 2 if your retarded. no one would know what you’re talking about. we just called it the top loading nes or the new model. nes 2 indicates a difference other than it’s shell. that’s like releasing mario bros on the home console after the arcade and calling super mario 2 since it’s on a new platform regardless of the fact its the same game.
the wii is kinda of a upgrade to the gamecube. as you can see Nintendo has been doing this for years and have been very successful with the methods. well done Nintendo!
Damn, nitpicky much guy? The smaller SNES was the Super Famicom Jr. in Japan. The US version is almost identical but asfaik it never had a differnet name. I suppose if you wanted to call it something the most proper would be a model 2 snes, or snes jr. Just like with the different model Saturns and Genesis’ they’re slightly different hardware but do the same thing.
Well there were at least two versions of the Genesis. One that had the power and reset button along with a volume slider in the front left corner of the machine’s top then one that had just the power and reset buttons on it. They never called them Sega Genesis and Genesis 2. They were both name the Sega Genesis as it was an alteration of the system’s housing and nothing more.
