Katsuya Eguchi Explains Why Nintendo Land Does Not Feature Online Play

In my opinion, Nintendo Land is the perfect pack in game.  It gives us familiar characters, fun and quick mini games, as well as a great family experience.  What more could we ask for?

Some have asked for online multi-player capabilities.

It turns out, Nintendo Land was built for in “in home” play by design.  Producer Katsuya Eguchi says that the game was better suited to play in a room with family and friends.

“Nintendo Land’s multiplayer attractions work because of the communication shared between the people playing them. They were set up from the start to be something people in the same room could enjoy.”

He also revealed that Metroid Blast was Originally meant to be a Star Fox Mini Game.

“Generally it was easy to match the gameplay from the prototypes with one series or another. For example, a game with air and ground battles works well with Metroid.”

“There was a time when Metroid Blast was going to be a Star Fox title, but the prototype featured this vehicle that hovered around like a helicopter and we figured that’d never be a good match for an Arwing.”

I think they should have compromised and included both Star Fox and Metroid into the package, I guess we can always hope for DLC.

As far as the online game play goes, I feel that Nintendo Land does not need it.  I have a blast playing alone, or with my family.  Overall, it is a great package of mini games.  However, I have heard some critique from people that have not had the option to play with friends and family.  I understand their concerns, and might feel the same way if I did not have someone to pay with.  What are your thoughts?  Did Nintendo miss the boat on the lack of online play for Nintendo Land, or is it fine how it is?
