@Fabio
That is very possible, especially since Microsoft and Sony will begin to mimic the Wii's controls. However you cannot deny the fact that Nintendo does not give up and always ends up on top, even if it takes them a while.

I guarantee that Nintendo will at live Sony and only have Microsoft to compete with until another company brings a 3rd system into the picture.

The only reason Microsoft won't leave the gaming industry is because they are stubborn and only survive by stealing other companies' ideas and then using their wealth to avoid trouble, and not just in their gaming division. Microsoft was founded on the concept of taking ideas of others and using it for their own benefit. If you don't believe me research Bill Gates and Microsoft.

@ fabio

when nintendo fell the first time they were really the only game in town, but a dose of healthy competition opened their eyes. i doubt you will see the same restrictions placed on third parties as in the past. if the third parties were to bring great games and development to nintendo's platform i hardly see any chance in failure the next generation. you'd have the best of both worlds and probably meatier hardware as well. i think nintendo is in a good position right now and in the near future. if history repeats itself (in the gaming industry) i doubt microsoft will win. nintendo learns from their mistakes and i can hardly say the same for microsoft. the big n will be around for quite awhile longer i'd wager.

Well, you certainly can't blame third parties for backing the PS3 and 360 this gen. Although you CAN blame them for taking OVER TWO YEARS to figure out that more gamers are buying the Wii than the other two. If you're slow in this market, you'll lose money. The big third parties gambled and lost. Look at EA, they're putting out more good games than they EVER have in the recent past, and they STILL Lost a shit ton of money? Why? Because they backed the wrong horse. They were pumping out HD games at VERY high cost and lower than expected sales. Compare that to lots of games on Wii, with very LOW production costs and higher than expected sales.

@ all the above

and them Nintendo would fall again, in the next generation, as they have fallen in the past for being arrogant and restrictive. In which case, MS would win.

@ joshdad i couldn't agree more i should have mentioned that myself. i like the idea of third parties coming back, but not with junk. perhaps the seal of quality should come back. i know in the past it meant that it was properly authorized by nintendo and didn't mean whether or not the game was any good, but using it as a standard control now would be great.

Well, if the 3rd party dev.'s are trying to come back by bearing gifts, they better make sure that it's something better than most of the garbage they've been peddling so far.
I would like to see Nintendo institute a tough quality control for 3rd parties.
Something like "You can hop aboard our money making machine only if you're games meet our standards - in other words, you try to push your junk, and you'll be left out in the cold."
