It’s unofficial! The UK gets all the good VC games first! [Smash Bros. on UK VC]

First it was Mario RPG, more recently the UK saw Swords & Soldier first, and this Friday  they’ll be treated with the  original Super Smash Bros on Virtual Console!  It’s not that bad of a trend though – we get just about everything else first, and hopefully we’ll see this one stateside the following Monday.

It’s not often Nintendo needs to fulfill special requests on Virtual Console games, but it would be nice if this particular N64 release didn’t require the Classic Controller or gamecube pad to play – being able to simply pick up a Wii-Remote and join in was one of my favorite features of Brawl, and I hope this simple control scheme can somehow be implemented in this monumental re-release.

[Thanks Sickr!]

I’m with you Sean. I’m not that upset over the UK getting VC releases before we do. Maybe Nintendo’s just making up for years past when the UK would get games a year or two later than everyone else.

They still get pretty screwed on release dates over there, so it’s really not a big deal at all – it is pretty funny though. It’s also useful – the earliest we would have heard of this normally would be our own Monday release cycle, so this gives us a heads up – even if it’s not soon, at least we know it’s coming now, and if there ARE any unlikely changes, we’ll know about it within a week.

Well, I’m a member of the European Club Nintendo and it says June 12th for Smash Bros on Virtual Console.

I was wondering why it took so long to release after Brawl.

So can we finally get the freakin’ game here in the US now? I own Melee and Brawl and sadly I never got to play the original N64 game. Sad I know….but it’s ticking me off that Japan has had it a good while now and now Europe is getting it before us too.

Just release it already will ya?

Japan got Smash VC before UK…

And they don’t get the good games first officially until they get Goldeneye and the PokeMon Stadiums first!!

That’s nice, but I want Star Fox for the SNES please.

I’m really hoping this comes to the US Virtual Console. Oh, the memories!

Anyway, what’s the point of bringing Pokemon Stadium to the VC? You can’t transfer your monsters from your handheld game to Stadium, so it kind of defeats the purpose.

Except for those awesome mini-games. Again, oh, the memories!

    @ Andrew G.

Maybe it would come with a version of your choice installed? 9 separate Stadium Games, three for Stadium 1, and six for Stadium 2. You would download the Stadium game that matches the version you want: If you want Red, for instance, then you can download Stadium 1 or 2 with Red inside the Game Boy Tower. If you want Crystal, then you download the Stadium 2 with Crystal installed.

@Lite: You know, that isn’t a bad idea Lite. I always kind of thought about something similar to that for when Sonic & Knuckles is released here on VC in the US. You know, for if you want to play Sonic 2 & Knuckles or Sonic 3 & Knuckles included with the regular Sonic & Knuckles download. Although, about the whole Super Smash Bros. N64 biz here. It’s kinda good that the UK is getting the game before us here in the US. I mean, I know lots of gamers here in the US, I myself too am irritated that we haven’t received SSB for N64 on VC yet. But c’mon now, we’ll get it soon guys.

When it comes to the VC/WiiWare, yes they get the good stuff first and we (NA) get royally screwed big time. Of course, Japan has us beat BIG TIME.
