As part of their North American Wii U event, Nintendo has unveiled their so-called third pillar to their next-generation console. The third pillar…is Nintendo TVii (yes, with two “I’s”), a new service that will allow users to watch movies, sports, and even record television shows via the Wii U console. The personalized TV guide offers a multitude of features that will also connect with various social media networks, such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. In addition, the personalized program guide will have access to popular services such as Netflix, Hulu Plus, and your DVR service (TiVo was only shown for the time being).
That’s right. Reggie and Nintendo love them some Breaking Bad.
Further details of the newly announced service include user’s own personal profile that will enable them to browse their friends activity and tastes. Mark you favorite programs, check stats, highlights, and updates from your favorite sports team, and post comments during specific scenes of movies and TV shows.
The Nintendo TVii service will be free of charge and in the box when the Wii U launches. Nintendo has specifically mentioned that they are “exploring” the idea of expanding this service outside of North America.
