IGN Top 100 Games of all Time – 8 of Top 10 are Nintendo titles
Sunday, December 2nd, 2007 at 10:38pm by David
IGN just published a big old list of what they consider to be the top 100 games of all time. Thumbing through the list, you see a lot of great games mentioned. Putting them in order seems daunting and almost silly. Regardless, when I got to the top ten, I noticed a trend: eight of the top ten spots were occupied by games that were initially released for Nintendo systems.
Were there any Nintendo games they forgot to put on the list? (Where’s WiiSports?)

Yeah, where’s the link to the list?

its a bad list because no mario galaxy or zelda tp?
December 2nd, 2007 at 11:32 pm
i agree with no tp in the top 10- and galaxy is too new to include just yet… but oot and alttp were wayyyy too low.
also, no smb3? mario 3 > mario 1
yeah- weird list.

Super Mario Brothers 1 the top game? Maybe most influential, but certainly not the best. 3, World, 64, and Galaxy are all better. Heck, even the New Super Mario Brothers is better than the original (IMO).

Is there a page that has just the whole list? I’ve looked at #100, 99, 10 and 1, but as a grown-up with an actual job, I don’t have time to click through 100 enormous ad-laden IGN pages.
I guess you could make the argument that grown-ups don’t read IGN top 100 lists in the first place, but I’m curious.

They are obviously trying to generate clicks on their site, so they make you click through the whole thing. Both Super Mario 3 and Super Mario World are on the list with SMW ranking higher than SM3.

Guys, I’m not sure if you had math in school, but the title of the article is misleading.
#10 Capcom
#9 Square Soft
#8 Nintendo (1)
#7 Nintendo (2)
#6 Valve
#5 Nintendo (3)
#4 Nintendo (4)
#3 Microprose
#2 Tetris (NOT NINTENDO – at least not originally)
#1 Nintendo (5)
5 out of 10 were from Nintendo. Still impressive if overhyped but I agree strongly on #1 – BEST GAME EVAR!

These top 100 lists never work, just like every other top 100 list out there I had a few quimbles with this one. Although its good to see Zelda OOT not a No1 game because (for the reasons they provided) Super Mario Bros is the original video game and hence deserves its spot.

SMB is the first popular side-scrolling platformer, but you’d have to go back about 12 years earlier to find the first commercial videogame and like 20 years earlier to find the original video game.
If you meant “the original Mario game”, of course, there were three or four of those before SMB as well.

after reading the readers comments on that page I came to the conclusion that this should be the top ten so they would like it:
Young hardcore’s Top 10:
1. Grand Theft Auto IV
2. halo 3
3. Grand Theft Auto San Andreas
4. Halo 2
5. Gran Theft Auto Vice City
6. Halo 1
7. Gran Theft Auto III
8. Gears Of War
9. Bioshock
10. Super Mario Bros 1
