Harmonix assures Rock Band 2 Wii DLC is on the way

Sunday, December 28th, 2008 at 2:15pm by Jake

Those of you who anxiously purchased Rock Band 2 Wii over the past week have unfortunately met an error when trying to access the Music Store. Harmonix assures that they are hard at work on delivering the content within the next few weeks/months.

The downloadable content is in the final testing stages and Harmonix is working as fast as possible to deliver the 20 free bonus songs for Rock Band 2, plus an additional 30 songs from the Rock Band DLC Catalog to fans as early in 2009 as possible. As soon as we can announce a firm date, you can be sure the Rock Band community will be the first to know.

It’s unfortunate that Harmonix was unable to provide a solid store offering at launch, but the future of downloadable song content looks optimistic. Hit the jump to see which 20 free songs you’ll be receiving.

  • The 88 – “Sons and Daughters”
  • Authority Zero – “No Regrets”
  • Between the Buried and Me – “Prequel To The Sequel”
  • The Cab – “Bounce”
  • The Chevelles – “Get It On”
  • The Cocktail Slippers – “Give It To Me”
  • Dealership – “Database Corrupted”
  • Endeverafter – “I Wanna Be Your Man”
  • The Ghost Hounds – “Ashes To Fire”
  • Hollywood Undead – “Young”
  • Kutless – “The Feeling”
  • The Len Price 3 – “If I Ain’t Got You”
  • Lesley Roy – “I’m Gone, I’m Going”
  • Opiate for the Masses – “Burn You Down”
  • Semi-Precious Weapons – “Magnetic Baby”
  • Shaimus – “Like a Fool”
  • Thenewno2″ – Crazy Tuesday”
  • Tickle Me Pink – “The Time Is Wrong”
  • Underoath – “Desperate Times, Desperate Measures”
  • X Japan – “I.V.”

Not quite a star line-up, but you can’t argue with free DLC.

If you haven’t picked this gem up yet then do so now. It easily beats out Guitar Hero for top Wii music game. Just make sure you use GHWT instruments with RB2 for the complete band experience from both sides. Expect a full review later this week.

Free music is free music and the majority of bands I listened to this year were as a result of free iTunes or Amazon MP3 tracks I got!

As for the delay .. I say take your time and get it right. I just bought the game today and will have plenty of time before I seek additional tracks.

not a strong set list.. but hey, it’s free

Gah! I wish they’d hurry up. A lot of my relatives were disappointed during Christmas eve that we couldn’t download the No Doubt Singles…and I want my Against Me!

FYI: “Prequel To The Sequel” is one of the hardest songs, but fun (not including other DLC)

360 and PS3 got the same songs.

The back of the freaking box even says “Holiday 2008.” I’m highly annoyed by their attitude toward customers. No included in the story is this line from the announcement: “We’ve noticed a bit of confusion on the forums regarding add-on content for Rock Band 2 on the Wii.” The word “confusion” gets me. How is it confusing to read the back of the box???

Furthermore, the “announcement” was only put on the forums on Christmas eve, too late and too hidden for most consumers to be aware that they were not getting a full game Christmas morning. I find that insulting, greedy, and shady. Frankly, it’s false advertising, and they should be nailed to the wall for it.

YES! I can’t wait to play some Underoath.

McClain: What, you think the execs are sitting in their offices counting wads of cash while telling the developers NOT to work on getting the music store online? Harmonix have been nothing but apologetic in the past when things weren’t releasing as planned (Moving Pictures, 360/PS3 Bonus songs) and I have no reason to believe that they’re anything but that during this delay as well.

False advertising? Seriously? Listen to yourself for a second. Do you honestly think that complaining about something as inane as a delay for a video game is going to get you your songs any faster? Would you rather them rush and put the store online now when there’s probably still a bunch of bugs to fix?

Before we begin trashing Harmonix you must understand why RB2 was delayed. Besides moving the release to late December due to working on DLC, Harmonix wanted to make sure the other versions of RB2 on PS360 could be debugged correctly before shipping the Wii edition. Wii games just can’t be patched down the line like other consoles.

If Harmonix is serious about their claim of a full 500 song library available to Wii owners then I’ll gladly wait a few more weeks.

I do need some Boston tracks though. “…rock and roll band, everybody’s waitin’! Gettin’ crazy…”
