Either one of gaming’s biggest franchises is going casual, or the Nintendo DS is about to grow up.

Nintendo’s Cammie Dunaway has confirmed a new Grand Theft Auto, subtitled Chinatown Wars, is coming exclusively to the DS this winter.

The game will take place in Liberty City. No word if players will be able to beat hookers with the stylus.

let’s think of ways gta could go casual.

when you car jack people you engage in a touch-screen minigame whereby you have to pick with lock with the stylus.

the cars are all mario kart cars.

niko bellic sports a red cap with an N on it and instead of shooting people he jumps on their heads.

nah i’m just kidding. so far this is my favorite e3 announcement.

Nintendo should not have breezed through this announcement. GTA fans would have loved to see more. Why not show some gameplay footage of this one?

More importantly, could this open the door to GTA on the Wii? Pimp slapping via Wii MotionPlus? What a better way to demo that 1:1 motion!

i will be angered though if they still stick to that kiddy-crap. Nintendo is soooo scared to mention non-kiddy games which is probably why she mentioned the game in passing

Scott, i bet if this game gets a good amount of sales, it probably will be on the Wii

I can’t see this being full 3D like the PSP version – not powerfull enough to do the 3D games justice.

I hope it’s an updated version of GTA1 and 2 – that would make it an instant pick up and play anytime classic!

yeah, I was pretty disappointed that they didn’t show an ingame footage or at least some screenshots.

This announcement was the biggest and most exciting surprise to me. Honestly didn’t see GTA coming to any Nintendo consoles, and think that has been one of their biggest “misses” so far this generation. So good news for DS fans!

They didn’t have screenshots or footage, so I’m not sure what to think.

    It is pretty shocking, though.

Someone have a towel, I just puked on myself.

i liked the gta advance version (of course the graphics were ps1+) but it held my attention. i don’t see it being fully 3-d, but here’s hoping. some in-game shots would have been nice just to know what to expect.
