Gauntlet DS delayed again, needs food badly!

Gauntlet DS, with its purported online co-op fun and nostalgic throwback feel, was one of my eagerly anticipated titles in 2008.
But then it got delayed. And delayed. Now it’s delayed again, to April, although hints are dropping fast that even this date isn’t set in stone (it’s a GameStop placeholder. Boo!)
Not good, not good at all. What’s the deal, Backbone? Gauntlet DS looked great last year, but it’s fading fast! Gauntlet DS… needs food badly!

Wow, this is good and bad news all at once. I didn’t know they were making a Gauntlet game for the DS (awesome), but now that I know it’s getting delayed (boooooo).
Still, Gauntlet for the DS sounds awesome to me.

I’ve heard rumors the delays are because this game just isn’t very good… hopefully they aren’t true, because I’ve always enjoyed the Gauntlet in the past.

I hope not. Gauntlet is a great game, but I’ll be the first to admit the design is not rocket science. How can one f-up Gauntlet?!

It’s possible to mess up the formula – especially on a portable system. If you need proof, check the Game Rankings page for Gauntlet on GBA:

Granted, a new DS version should be able to avoid the mistakes made previously… but we’ll just have to wait and see how good (or bad) it ends up being.

Yeah, the idea is simple, but designing good levels isn’t as easy as it seems . . . as anyone who’s played Little Big Planet can attest to.
Ejamer, is there anything concrete you can give about those rumors? Not that I don’t believe, I’d just like to read it.

Wow, Metacritic already has two reviews.

I can’t give a link for the rumor, because it came from a podcast last year. Probably from the IGN guys, I think… although I’m not 100%sure about that.
What I remember hearing was that gameplay wasn’t very smooth and that multiplayer didn’t work all that well. Delaying the release might let them polish those details up and improve the game, or it might just be to avoid the holiday rush and have less competition on release.

Cool, thanks for getting back about that.
