Pikmin and Mario Tennis are coming to Wii in 2009. The remakes, that is.
Siliconera reports today Nintendo has confirmed the Pikmin and Mario Power Tennis “Wii-makes” will be released in North America in 2009.
No specific North American dates were given, but Pikmin is now on track for a Dec. 25 release in Japan.
The confirmation comes from a PDF skeleton plan issued by Nintendo of Japan for 2009. The Donkey Kong Jungle Beat remake is curiously absent from the North American list, as is Disaster: Day of Crisis.
Nintendo announced the “Play on Wii” selection earlier this month, a collection of GameCube classics being remade specifically for Wii. It begins Dec. 11 with Jungle Beat in Japan. Chibi Robo!, Pikmin 2, Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes also follow in 2009.
No pricing details have been confirmed for North America. Pikmin will cost 3,800 yen in Japan, 2,000 yen less than a standard Wii title.

REMAKES?
How about NEW games built from the ground up for the Wii ?
Sounds much more appealing than a remake from a few years ago…
But maybe someone will like them..

do we know if these will just have Wii controls? or will they have at least slight upgrades elsewhere? better graphics? bonus content?

I think this is actually a really good idea on Nintendo’s part because a lot of great games were overlooked last generation. Now that Nintendo is the market leader there are a lot of Wii owners who never owned a Gamecube will get a chance with these games, and with (hopefully) improved controls. I, for one never picked up Metroid Prime 2 and would love to play it with the controls of MP3. And to all of those clamoring for new titles, those are coming too, and I doubt these remakes will take that much development time away from those titles, and will only broaden the Wii library.

Even if they will do MP2; got to wonder if Nintendo is going to replicate the controls from MP3 into the other two.

I have no problem with Wii-Making some of the great GameCube games. It keeps those games up to date with the Wii controls, and gives people who missed those great games an opportunity play them.

I’m up for some Metroid goodness, I aslo hope they do a grat job on the gameplay mechanics on Mario Tennis, Wii Sports Tennis is great & all, but a bit limited. I want single player vs. & games that last longer than 5 “games” at most.

If the price is right, I’ll happy buy both the Pikmin and Mario Tennis Wii-makes, since they are perfect matches for the console. I’m more excited for a new Pikmin, but I never finished the original anyway so…yeah, definitely happy to hear this news!

As much as I love me some Pikmin on Wii, I must ask: What will the “Wii-mification” imply? If it is just adding the Wii controls, I’m not buying: I want widescreen and better graphics, and how about some online functionality, even if it is just access to other players game stats for bragging rights?
