Metroid Prime Trilogy: The intros

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007 at 6:18pm by Jake

Let’s take a look back to when you booted up Metroid Prime for the first time. You might of had doubts that Nintendo would be able to convert the series into the third dimension. But when the opening cinematic began showing a shaky video feed of a modernized metroid while accompanied by an even eerier, but epic soundtrack….you knew that this was going to be good.

The introduction to a game is a very important element that in a way prepares you for your upcoming tasks. All three of the Prime games intros have accomplished that sense of an epic Sci-Fi flick that will slip you a few hints. Contributing to the Month of Metroid, I have combined all three intros of the trilogy for your viewing pleasure.

    what about hunters?

hunters was a spin off of the trilogy…it doesn’t count :)

I’m partial to the first one, but the MP3 intro screen is really moving and epic sounding, perfect for the end of a great trilogy.

The first intro may as well be the best intro to a videogame EVER in my opinion (together with the one of Super Metroid)! I think what makes it stand out from the other two Prime intros is the warm red colors. Everytime I boot that game up in a dark room it gives me the creeps. The music is also perfect for it: not too little, not too much.

I did like the addition of the electric guitar-sounds in Prime 2. Hope they include more of that in Corruption toghether with the new choir inspirated soundtrack. However, the video doesn’t make the Prime 3-intro justice (I’m assuming it’s recorded off-screen) so I’ll wait and see for myself before I judge that one too hard.

It’s gonna be a long wait until October, seeing how I’m stuck here in Sweden.

Would those intro/menu screens be any better in Hi Def? Maybe. But even without it, they’re pretty hot! (Heck, they look cool in YouTube Def!)

I like the looks of the third and the sound of the 2nd the best. Still, mp3 will pwn prime 1 and 2.

Yep, the first Metroid Prime had the best intro I’ve ever seen in ANY game! The graphics made me think “am I looking at a GameCube game??

The first intro was the best. Just great.
Actually, the third seems to be the least interesting.
Funny, I would have thought it to turn out to be the best of all 3.

The first intro really is great, but the music of the third one creates the most exciting, eerie atmosphere, if you ask me!

All great games — I expect Corruption to be the best game of the trilogy, but for now, the first game stands (in my eyes) as the better game… and what a revolution it was for the Metroid series. Do you all remember playing it for the first time? Goodness…

I can’t wait to play this one with the Wii remote and nunchuck; it sounds absolutely SPECTACULAR!!!

Man, what’s with the lack of love for Echoes? I really, really liked that game a lot, as in, I liked it slightly more than Metroid Prime (although I loved the hell out of Metroid Prime).

I mean, yeah, you have to give Prime more credit for bringing Metroid into 3D and doing an amazingly good job at that. As far as innovation in the series goes, Prime definitely did more than Echoes, but Echoes was a direct sequel, so of course it’s going to build off of the game that preceded it. Still, there were a lot of little improvements here and there in Echoes: graphics were a bit better, more focus on the story, the boss fights were even better than Metroid Prime’s (Chykka and Quadraxis to be specific),and of course, the inclusion of Screw Attack.

I know a lot of people seem to say that they hated Dark Aether which is why they didn’t like Echoes as much, but I guess I’m kind of the opposite. I really liked Dark Aether, because it was exactly what it was supposed to be: a twisted version of Aether.

Well, enough of my rant about how awesome Echoes was. As for which intro is best, I honestly cannot decide. They all seem to work perfectly to me. Also, I can’t wait to see Metroid Prime 3’s intro on my own tv (Youtube videos just aren’t the same).

I like the first intro the best, but the music for Prime 3’s intro is absolutely stunning! It’s eerie and dark and it sounds so dangerous and foreboding! It makes chills run down my spine, hightening my excitement for this sure-to-be amazing game.

As for people’s problems with Echoes, I cant say I disagree completely. My problem was not that I didn’t like Dark Aether (it was a bit annoying, honestly). It was that I felt Prime 1 made better use of what it had. It didn’t double over itself and didn’t demand as much backtracking.
