First Guitar Hero IV details emerge
Monday, May 12th, 2008 at 10:31pm by Jake
The latest issue of GameInformer (June 2008) contains the first details on this fall’s, Guitar Hero IV for PS3, 360, Wii, PS2. Neversoft mentioned that they would continue the Guitar Hero franchise regardless of rival game, Rock Band, but would incorporate new features into instruments. Early details below…
- New Guitar design that will “impact the way you play GH in the future”.
- New instruments: Drums, Bass, Vocals, Lead)
- Unkown if GHIV will support RockBand perphrials.
- Create a song mode. (No Vocals)
- You can name the song and create album art. Songs can then be uploaded to GH Tunes where others may download it. 5 Song limit, but good ratings can get you 10 or more.
- The Wii and PS2 versions allow song sharing, but won’t be as robust as the PS3 and 360 versions.
- Create Rocker mode
- Create a Guitars and Drums
- All songs will be master tracks that so far include the following bands: Van Halen, The Eagles, Sublime, and Linkin Park
- Unknown transparent notes that are a new input mechanic which is being incorporated.
Wow! Forget getting Rock Band, folks. I’m holding out for GHIV. Expect more details in the upcoming weeks.

SHWEET!

Finally Linkin Park. Yeah, they don’t shred or anything too complex in terms of guitar work but c’mon, it’s LP. They’re awesome.

Guch I like your thinking. I’ve wanted LP for awhile. I think the only song out is DLC for XBOX.
Question though…will the old guitars still work. Cuz if they revamp the guitars and make the 2 I bought for III obsolete, I’m gonna be pissed.

Cool. Rock Band Hero. I like 3/4 of the bands announced (Linkin Park’s not my favorite band in the world). I hope the follow the Harmonix tradition and let us buy expansions at the store

I’m re-buying GHIII for 360 since I just got Rock Band, so they better not add any GHIV only features for the controller.
Question though: How can they keep calling it Guitar Hero if there’s going to be more instruments?

Superior Guitar Hero controllers + superior Guitar Hero tab + drums, vox + create a song mode + online Wii multiplayer like GHIII = massive win for Wii owners. It’s looking like a pass on Rock Band Wii.

I also heard that At The Drive-In will also be in the game.

I’m with Blake. See you later, Rock Band.

Yup, by the looks of it, they might have crushed Rock Band on the Wii with this announcement.
The create-a-whatever modes are always a plus in my books, especially if it’s anything like Rock Band’s.
That, Linkin Park, and what appears to be a more robust core gameplay has my vote already.

Well, that stinks. I was getting ready to buy Rock Band this summer but it looks like I am sticking with Guitar Hero again (own all the previous GH games).
I am totally excited about the create-a-song ability. That is something I’ve wanted for a long time.
The only thing I am worried about is the quality of the instruments. One reason I’ve not wanted Rock Band as much is because I hear nothing but bad things about the drums and guitar breaking. Hopefully the quality of these instruments are better.

I gotta wait for a few more details, but I think I might go cancel my Rock Band Wii pre-order.
If they say you can use the GH3 Wii guitar with GH4, I might even go get GH3 this summer.

I guess I too can come out and say that I love Linkin Park.

It’s funny how LP divides the masses. You either love them or hate them. I’m in the former, but man they are such a closet band.
Like I said, “No More Sorrow” is already a DLC for the other systems, but I really really want to play that song. I hope it’s on GHIV.

Cool! Finally someone cares. :] Gimp Band can collect dust on store shelves for all I care.

Why all the hate for Rock Band??? I haven’t played it, but I STILL plan on getting a PS3 and it in the near future. I’ll venture to say that if it weren’t for Rock Band, you all might still get to play LP, but it would most likely ONLY be on the guitar.

@ Jaime,
It’s not Rock Band on PS3/360 we are hating on. It’s Rock Band for Wii, which has the exact price of the “Next-Gen” systems, but a fraction of their features.
So GHIV > Rock Band on Wii. Not necessarily in general.

This puts the nail in Rock Band Wii’s coffin.
May 13th, 2008 at 8:08 pm
Even with Linkin Park ( Yay! ), I ain’t getting an overly expensive casual game.
May 14th, 2008 at 3:46 pm
hellz yes. now i’m hyped and will definetly get this for wii. it’ll be worth the wait, and they could add the supposed bonus type tracks sort of expansion pack like rock band wii is doing
May 15th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
Wow,
Yea, I was excited for RockBand for wii, but this will be awesome!
I have Guitar Hero III for Wii, and I love it (and I pwn). I can’t wait for this!
And don’t forget about GH On Tour
Woot! Thanks for the news!

What is the release date?
May 18th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
part of me loves it, part of me hates it. I’m excited but i dont have room for another video game drumset in my room. also i don’t want to fork out another $169 or more. Why did red octane and harmonix have to split up. It’s like they got divorced and I’m the child stuck in the middle.
