If anyone remembers that article I posted a while back about a rumored remake of Final Fantasy VI? It would seem that the creation was not actually made by Square but by a very dedicated fan by the name of Edward. Spoony Bard jokes aside, it would seem that he found our article and gave us the 411 on the info. So if you are interested in his art you can check out his deviant art page.
Sorry for the confusion guys, but in all seriousness, who wouldn’t want to see a 3D remake of Final Fantasy VI?

I like fan devotion and all, but it’s getting pretty ridiculous that every year there’s some kind of classic game remake from a guy who’s gonna distribute it for free on the internet and cry tears of blood when a lawyer slaps him with a cease and desist for violation of copyright.
you got punkd
ha!
and I don think anyone said anything about him making a remake. I just see him makeing it seem 3D… not the same.
No fan remakes here; just a tribute of sorts. (:
i’d love to see ff vi on the DS, but if i’m honest, FFIII and IV, I never even got close to finish either, not sure why though…
@Edward; is this 3d model actually doable on the DS? it looks really sweet!
@Jamie: It might be possible if there was little else being rendered on-screen while the Magitek Armor was visible; it’s around 730 triangles while the DS has a hard limit of around 2048 triangles (the limit is actually in vertices – I’m not sure if it takes triangle strips/fans into account) rendered at a time. So if you entered a battle with two of these, even if you’ve got backface culling, you don’t have a whole lot left for the environment and all of the player’s characters, and would probably need to resort to some programming trickery to make it work well.
So in the end this would probably be better suited for PSP, but I wasn’t really modeling it with any system in mind – just to keep it low and try to remain true to the style of FFVI. Frankly, I like the DS a lot more. (:
How did you like the GBA port, Edward?
