225_ff4.jpgLOS ANGELES, April 10 /PRNewswire/ — Square Enix, Inc., the publisher of Square Enix(TM) interactive entertainment products in North America, announced today that it will launch a completely re-envisioned FINAL FANTASY(R) IV for Nintendo DS(TM) on July 22, 2008. A new generation of gamers will now have the opportunity to experience a legend reborn.

The team that brought FINAL FANTASY III to Nintendo DS comes together once again to breathe new life into a classic that broke convention and introduced a wide array of innovations to the RPG genre. With its groundbreaking Active Time Battle (ATB) system and an engrossing, character-driven plot, FINAL FANTASY IV was a stunning step forward for role-playing games when it was originally released for the Super NES(R) in 1991.

“FINAL FANTASY IV for DS is a classic revived for the 21st century,” said John Yamamoto, president and chief executive officer of Square Enix, Inc. “The visual upgrades are remarkable, and the plot has been enhanced with added detail and depth. We hope that fans of the original, as well as players new to the FINAL FANTASY franchise, will enjoy all that this title has to offer.”

Now featuring full 3D graphics, fully-voiced dramatic cutscenes, and added content, FINAL FANTASY IV for DS is a must-play for those looking to jump into the best-selling RPG franchise in the world.

STORY

Four elemental Crystals, each possessing awesome power, lie scattered throughout the realm. However, men are quick to covet things that offer strength, and are easily corrupted by the might that they possess…

Seduced by the promised power of the Crystals, the kingdom of Baron begins employing unprovoked force to seize them from peaceful nations. The dark knight Cecil — Lord Captain of Baron’s elite force, the Red Wings — is ordered by his king to obtain the Crystals, but soon begins to question the monarch’s motives. Stricken with grief at his own actions, yet burdened by his loyalty to his country and his personal sense of honor, Cecil at last decides to turn from the path of darkness and destruction.

Enraged, the king accuses him of disloyalty, strips Cecil of his command, and sends him off to slay a mysterious beast that lurks in the nearby Valley of Mist. Cecil embarks on a fateful journey that will bring trials, betrayals, friendship, loss and self-discovery. Can Cecil open his eyes and become the man of honor that he must be?

That’s nice, just been a question of mine though, how come Square Enix is the only company that puts all their new DS games at 40$? Why do they have to be different (in a bad way too)

  2. actraiser says...

this will be most excellent. i loved all the old final fantasy games from the nes and snes. i look forward to the new additions and updated graphics :)

  3. gametaku says...

Yea, I hate that $40 price cut, that’s why I never buy them new.

  4. gametaku says...

Meant to say price, not price cut. I was thinking they should do one immediately.

  5. ejamer says...

Wait a minute, the same Final Fantasy IV that I played on SNES, PlayStation, and then GBA – but this time repackaged with 3D graphics and a few small system tweaks? Sounds like great justification for selling a 17 year old game at a premium price…
    :(

As much as I love old-school Final Fantasy games, Square has milked more than enough money out of me already. They will see no more of my cash spent on retro titles until Chrono Trigger is released at a reasonable price on Virtual Console.

MINE!! *places pre-order* want that game so badly 0.0

  7. peshue says...

Sweet the only FF game I really like.I might actually pay the ridiculous amout they charge for ff ds games to get this.

  8. neko to kuruma says...

I held off on getting III because I just knew they’d be doing this, and I love the ATB system so much more than the normal one. Mine!

  9. Aran says...

The GBA version of this game completely kicked my ass. I thought FF was just about pressing continue as you watched FMVs. I had no idea it meant brutal random battles in which characters died right and left.

  10. deepthought says...

    @Aran

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
    nice
You’re so right though, FF is really all about watching fluffy cutscenes now. This gem, however, comes from a different time…!!!

  11. Paul says...

ejamer: Square isn’t the one milking the FF games, that’s Enix. That’s pretty much why Enix bought them. Hence why we never see any other stuff Square released before the merger.

I’d pay $100 for this. Okay, I wouldn’t, but I can’t wait to see the cutscenes and the added depth to the game from that aspect. I only have the snes version, so I have no issue shelling out the cash for this here awesome jrpg.

  12. actraiser says...

i’ll still play this one and buy it new. not all of us went out and bought it on every platform possible. not their fault you’re a money waster ;P
