Fight! Which is better: Nintendo DS or Wii?
Wednesday, May 21st, 2008 at 7:13pm by Boss Hog
Ever since the release of the underrated Kirby: Canvas Curse in July 2005, the DS has been my favorite Nintendo system. Even after the release of Wii, which I’m equally a big fan of, the DS remained my Ninty platform of choice.
But I think I finally changed my mind (and probably did earlier this year), as I’ve really enjoyed my time playing Wii over the last eight months. So I wanna know, Infendo nation…
Which is better?
Tell us why in the comments, please.

NDS for the Win !
Afterall, It was the FIRST real revolution.
It was the DS, not the Wii ,which started Nintendo’s new dominance in the video game/ casual gamer world. And it still is selling like hot-cakes!
With innovative touch screen, dual screens,GBA back support AND the first ever Nintendo wi-fi online multiplayer games, it is THE best N system.
Amazing selection of first party games, and unlike the Wii, actual THIRD PARTY GAMES THAT DO NOT SUCK ASS, and very affordable price tag make it the best ever Nintendo system.
DS is number 1. Sorry Wii fanBoys, the DS is best.

I have always enjoyed being able to play video games wherever I want and without the hassle of turning on various electrical devices. The DS gets my vote because it comes with no wires attached.

Wow. This is tough. Did you really have to ask? I guess the DS, but that’s because it’s much more established. We may feel differently in time.

I claim being the first person to say, “Wii!” (French pun.) Granted, I haven’t given the DS much of a chance, I pour more of my money into my Wii. Maybe there’s a reason for that? Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the DS. But the Wii has just been having a great time with doing what it does best, and that’s impress the masses.

Both are great, but the DS has more years of greatness already.
Wii has more years of greatness to come.

For a while there in 2006/7 I would have said DS for sure. But since Mario Galaxy, I’ve been logging in a lot more Wii time. The 1st party games, No More Heros, Boom Blox and Zack/Wiki have been too good!

I say it depends on the player to some extent. Yes the DS was the first to utilize WI-FI for online play as Nintedo’s first online playah. The WII, obviously, is a freaking console (big plus) meaning that they always come with WAYY more punch than the portable and yet that is also were they fall, portablility. For the DS, they got Phantom HourGlass and recently, Call of Duty 4-a MULTI PLATFORM game. (do i really need to mention the metroid series??) I recall seeing a MechAssault game for the original Xbox for the DS as MechAssault: Phantom Wars. The point of the portables is to have the game go WITH YOU and not sit on it’s can while you’re at the doctor’s office, walking through the groceries, or just riding a long ride in the car going here to there.
Yes The DS has that firm foundation due to time and succsess. The WII is still, somewhat, the new dude on the shelf. Point-It’s too early to ask right off the bat which one is better. The portables and the consoles are made to counter the faults of eachother. Nintedo started out in the gaming industry as the orginal, black and white Game Boy, then COLOR Game Boy (colored skins), then Game Boy Color, and “last year’s” Game Boy Advance and today’s brighter GBA SP. We need to give the two brothers some time. Years later when we’re looking foward to the DS2 and Super WII (or something, whatever they name them), that is the time to ask that burning question that yearns for an answer…which could shock some people, but idk dudes, i-d-k. But keep this in mind…can the DS play GB color games? I still have mine. I’m gonna get that WII. I alredy have that kewl Dual Screen wonder boy (lol that’s good). Now if you compare teh GC to the GBA…that’s obvious I think…

Apples and Oranges !

well put cl8on.
they’re so different that it’s difficult to pick a favorite, but i’ve recently come to the conclusion that i enjoy portable games much more than console games, so i’m going to go with the DS.

I definitely side with the Wii. Most hand-held games (including the DS) make my hands start to cramp up after about 20 minutes of play, plus I don’t really care for the smaller size of the screen either (feels like I’m missing too much). I much prefer the comfort, size and graphics of the Wii.
In fact, here’s a question to ask yourself: If the same exact game is offered on both systems (the Wii and the DS) which would you rather play it on. For me, there’s no question – the Wii.

Let’s compare: (based off of the games developed for them, not their capabilities)
Graphics
Wii: shit. Not even 10 games actually have good graphics on this system.
DS: shit. See above, but it’s more like 40 games for the DS.
Sound
Wii: decent. Same as all other next gen consoles.
DS: shit. Sounds like Garageband. *shudders just thinking about the name*
Controls
Wii: Good. More fun than a regular controller if tweaked right.
DS: Decent. No more fun then a regular controller.
1st Party Games
Wii: Great. The Wii’s strongest point.
DS: Pretty Good. But not as much as the Wii’s, because they always half ass the single player for better multiplayer. *cough*Phantom Hourglass and Metroid Prime Hunters *cough*
3rd Party Games
Wii: Worse than shit. Half-assed ps2 ports? Loads of shovelware? Cheap Cash-ins? Where do I began?
DS: Pretty good. Lots of great and original third party titles here.
Online:
Wii: Shit. First FC’s and now they want you to Pay to Play??
DS: Shit. After waiting 15 mins to get into one game, you get kicked out of it for owning all of the n00bs.
Graphics: Tie
Sound: Wii
Controls: Wii
1st Party: Wii
3rd Party: DS
Online: Tie
Well, it looks like Wii have our WinRAR.

I wanted it to be quick thing to do on my part so I thought of what I’ve been playing more.
I haven’t touched my DS in the longest time (besides to play GBA games) and during school I was always tempted by my Wii rather than my DS. I still love my DS, but yeah. Wiiner.

Wii…Group Gaming. Big Screen. Innovative hand gestures and pointing. Online. Miis. Virtual Console. WiiWare. Tons of great Lgames.
DS…Play anywhere. Two Screens. Innovative touch controls. Built-in Mic. WiFi. Wireless multiplayer. Ridiculous amounts of awesome games.
They are both awesome.

I would have to say Wii. The touch screen was good. The Wii Remote is better. I say it’s a breakthrough for gaming. We’ve used a controller for far too long. The Wii Remote is not a simple controller. It’s advanced.

I gotta go w/ the Wii and here’s why. I quit gaming after the N64 some time around 1997. I sold all my games for my first guitar.
Then, a decade later, while the DS came close to sucking me back in after a buddy at work let me borrow it to play New Super Mario Bros, it wasn’t until Mario Galaxy came out that I took the plunge and bought a Wii.
Now 7 months and 20 something games later, I’m just as addicted as I was back than and I’m looking forward to many great years of gaming to come!
I also now have a DS as well =)

Nintendo DS because (other than some cracked hinges) it’s a toughie. Plus, it’s hard to beat a system that isn’t tethered to a television.
May 21st, 2008 at 10:17 pm
If I was stranded on a deserted island with only one Nintendo console and it’s gaming library, I would take the DS Lite over anything anytime.

Well a little unfair in poll as up till Wii I didn’t have the coordination to play video games. Although I did download Mario 64 which was from my one and only console I got before my ex took it with him.
I tried playing it on the Wii using a standard controller. After a month I deleted the game as I pretty much sucked at getting around. And I tried playing it for at least 10 hours total.
So the DS meant nothing more to me than a portable way to feel really uncoordinated.
But with the Wii I can get far into the games. Paper Mario I am 6 hearts in. Mario Galaxy I was about 7 planets in. Super Mario Kart (yes, a lot of Mario) I still play with but not my favorite. Metroid Prime I did really well on but am stuck and might have to buy a cheat book to get out. But I have a good number of hours on that thing. Have a golf game I play from time to time, and even Dance, Dance Revolution (though I suck at it, I still drag it out).

I’ve just always preffered console gaming and with games like Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros. Brawl, Metroid Prime 3. Wii gets my vote

DS is a great system, but lately I feel as if the games have reached a plateau – new and innovative DS content is much less common now than just a year ago.
On the other side, the Wii is just starting to hit it’s stride. The number of interesting (traditional) games is rising, new features like DS-Wii connectivity and WiiWare are starting to appear, and genre-busting applications like WiiFit are hitting the market.
Both systems have strengths and weaknesses, but *right now* the Wii is more exciting for me.

Until smash brothers ds comes out i’m on the wii’s side
just think how good it would be….

I can’t beleive so many have chosen the wii over the dS. I will go crazy now.

crap, misspelled believe.

NDS has been my favorite Gaming system since its launch. and even the Wii hasnt been able to compete yet.
With Dual screens, touch screen, microphone, Great RPGs, Great Action games and best of all I take it with me everywhere, I can play even while sitting and waiting in lines or in waiting rooms. A system that goes anywhere I go, and with the great line-up of games, how could the Wii even compete.
I love my Wii don’t get me wrong, but so far only a couple of games have come out that are worth my effort. Its sad that the best use my Wii has had for me so far is to play Virtual console games which I had already played years ago on their original consoles.

For me its easy… I have always been a whore when it comes to Home Consoles, I just downright prefer them to handheld portable consoles. I just cant stand looking at a small screen for a long time..not good for the eyes. Why would I look at a tiny screen when all my consoles are hooked up to a 50″ screen! I really only play my DS lite and GBA games if I am traveling (long flight) or off to the cottage, or at a family event where other will have a DS, or I know I am going to be waiting a long time for someone or something, like standing in line for movie tickets and waiting 3 hours to be first inline for Iron Man
My DS lite still gets used a lot but Wii still takes the cake for me. Regarding games, yes there is a lot of crap and shovelware out there but there are more then enough good Wii games to spend hours, days, months on.
@ Wii Wii in my case…Wii FOR THE WIN
NA NA NA BOO BOO
