“Extra Baggage” by VG Cats

Catz DSDon’t know how I missed this gem from VG Cats. Respect points to the first reader who chimes in with their best “my PSP is now a coaster” story.

Sorry Jack, I love my PSP. If someone used it as a coaster, I’d have a brain hemorrhage. That thing is so beautiful.

My PSP is dead right now. The battery drained itself out.

yeah i love the psp, there is nothing like playing ports of old ps2 games on a handheld device, boring!!!!

nothing like booting up a bunch of SNES ROMs on your PSP to really have some fun!

Anyone who’s psp is a coaster needs to have their head examined. That thing’s a great emulator player. The only better one I know of, or own at least, is the gp2x.

Ha, mine would have been a coaster if it weren’t for my brother buying it off me =P

Can I get a half respect point? =D

Looks like people don’t hate non-Nintendo products as much as jack hoped.

My friends’ PSP became a his newest dart for his dart board (it doesn’t stick very well, though. Just kinda breaks.). It’s his Xbox360 that became a paper weight. Along with all of my other friends 360s…

    Then…

“My friends’ PSP became a his newest dart for his dart board (it doesn’t stick very well, though. Just kinda breaks.). It’s his Xbox360 that became a paper weight. Along with all of my other friends 360s…”

    Yup. Guilty as charged.

If it weren’t for the gp2x with its crap loads of emulators, no firmware to fight with, tv out and no screen stretching on said emulators I’d be all over the psp. Geez that makes it sound a lot worse than it really is.

I have a DS, I bought it shortly after it came out, I have a good few games including all the really good ones like Mario kart and NSMB, its a lot of fun. I recently bought a psp because of the pretty big price drop (I got mine for 195 euros including ratchet and clank and another high-priced game). I think the psp is brilliant for three major reasons

    1) The design: if you look closely at the psp’s design it’s really very well thought out. It’s very flat and the weight is distributed evenly, making it easier to carry in your pocket, unlike the DS, which has the bulk of its weight in the centre of the machine. The placing of the earphone-jack is indented into the machine so as not to protrude letting it slip easily into cases or pockets with the earphones in.

    2) The games: I have searched long and hard for a good adventure game on the DS where most of the game play involves blasting your way through trash mobs on beautiful maps, but it just doesn’t exist, at least, not that I can find.

    3) The price: Now a lot of people out there will complain about my first point saying if I want a sleeker designed DS why not just buy a lite? I’ll tell you why; there was, in my local games shop looking at a DS lite, sell for 150 euros, next to it a psp selling, as I mentioned before, for 195 euros with two very good games. I could get something with a nice new design but the same functionality or I could get something witch, if you do the sums costs about 80 euros cheaper than the lite.

Don’t get me wrong I still love my DS because the game I do have a still very good, I’m just against people bad-mouthing the PSP when really, the only thing that ever mattered was the price, and that’s changed now.

the psp price is still more by far, its just that psp gets better bundle deals for some reason, almost has to be a sony thing because frys in the US also has psp bundles with basically 5 games, the price total making 3 of those games free. ps2 has the same bundle deals, 10 games, at least 5 ending up free. gamecube didnt have those types of bundles.

your first point is moot since its not comparing the psp to the lite which is almost all anybody can get, especially new. i dont even know what point 2 is about, i would need an example, and what your view of beautiful and adventure game is.
but its true, publishers continue to put more resources and variety of games into the psp then the DS no matter how much greater DS hardware and software sell. it doesnt make sense, but it does hurt the DSs ability to compete with the PSP and keeps nintendo having to do most of the pushing for its own system, as usual.

Shows the greatness of the DS that its still around with the way publishers shortchange it. things are slowly looking up for the DS of course with some more great unique games coming out this year, but i hope we can get some more traditional RPGs like the psp has gotten and not just alot of srpgs, though i love those too.

  14. InvisibleMan says...

    Sorry, never got a PSP!

I’m seriously considering getting a PS2, though, just because of one game: Odin Sphere!

Before either the PSP or the DS came out, I kept shifting between which one should I get… then my wife gave me the original DS for Xmas and I’ve never looked back!

As I mentioned many times before, as beautiful as it is, the PSP is not exactly “portable” (too big! battery life too short! game upload time too long!), nor is it a “console” (resolution too low! screen too small!): it kind of falls in an in-between limbo all of its own!
