Trailer - Chrono Trigger DS
Tuesday, July 8th, 2008 at 7:00am by WillChrono Trigger is a console role-playing game developed and published by Square (now Square Enix) for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System video game console. It was released on March 11, 1995 in Japan, and August 22, 1995 in North America.
It is considered one of if not the best of the Super Nintendo role-playing games. The game’s story follows a group of young adventurers who travel through time to prevent a global catastrophe. The game was one of the first game to feature multiple different endings depending on who was in your party or when you beat the game. It is a true classic and I can honestly say everyone I know is excited for this game being released on the Nintendo DS.

Chrono Trigger is, hands down, the best 16-bit RPG I have ever played. Both it’s story and gameplay mechanics are spotless…and hold up even today.
I’m glad to hear it’s being re-released.

Underneath the trailer shown, there are some other trailers (mostly the same one as the one above), but if you watch the 1upgamers trailer, it shows some of the amazing new cut scenes that have been added to the game. So basically they have faithfully remade the original game, and added some great new scenes to it. This will probably be the best DS game made so far. I never actually owned CT for the SNES (I did spend a lot of money renting it though), but this is a definite must-buy when it comes out.

@ Joshdad
That 1UP trailer is actually a fan trailer and those scenes are fake. Though in the sense that those scenes shown in 3D are from Chrono Resurrection a unofficial remake of the game for PC that was canceled. Sorry to burst your bubble there, but it’s sadly the truth.

I think posting their website is the best way to go right now, so everyone can be familiar with the unofficial remake versus the official DS remake.

I saw this on Joystiq a few days ago, and I figure I’ll post what I said there, here:
What a lame port. They are not even upgrading the graphics or sound. There is no reason why I should buy this, especially if it’s going to be the typical DS price for a game. If it’s just a port, shouldn’t it be on the VC? Oh but wait, that would mean it would only cost 8 dollars…and Square would be losing money…
The only thing it looks like they are doing is retranslating it (thank gosh) but that’s already been done as a fan made project (see: Chrono Compendium), so unless Square actually adds more to the game to justify the price, I’m not buying this rip off.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they just took [copied] the fan made retranslation and used that.

@Will
Bubble goes POP.
Oh well, at least the original game is still one of the best games ever made (and I still think this will be one of the best DS game out there - with or without extra scenes). Those cut scenes were pretty nice looking though. And who knows, maybe they will still add some extra scenes to the final product.

If I cared about RPGs, I’d give a crap about Chrono Trigger.
