Sources: Tecmo Bowl DS, Wii-bound

With EA holding onto the NFL exclusivity rights like an old miser, gamers are increasingly looking to other venues to offer alternatives for their football fix. How about an updated Tecmo Bowl for DS and Wii?
EGM’s Quarterman said this week that a classic version of the classic NES game is going to arrive soon for the DS, while a modern remake is inbound for the Wii. Not much moreon that, be he promises more info in the next issue of EGM (naturally).
So how about it? Is Tecmo Bowl worthy of such treatment? Which do you prefer: remake or purist?

There are times where I really love the simple game play that Tecmo Bowl has, but at the same time it is nice to have something a little more deep. But if they did a remake more like that later Tecmo Bowls with trade, create, multi season and keep the simple game play, I would get it.

As long as they keep the top down camera angle I think I’d be ok with it.

@peshue:
I totally agree. To add to your statement, as long as they stay true to the feel of the original, I’ll be on board. Super Tecmo Bowl for the NES has a place in my heart and many others’ hearts as one of the greatest sports video games ever made.

Tecmo Super Bowl 3 for the SNES was (and still is) my favorite football game of all time. Sure I enjoy occasionall playing a newer version like Madden or even better NFL Street, but for me, the best is still the Classic for the SNES.
If they could find a way of keeping the simplicity of the original, but perhaps with updated graphics, it might be appealing, otherwise, I’ll stick to the original.

Tecmo Bowl was one of my first NES games and it has a very fond place in my heart. Tecmo Super Bowl is still the football game I like playing most. I hope they’re using that as the basis for the DS version. I’d also like a more challenging AI or different skill levels. Racking up points was very easy.

Nintendo should also give us a reprise of the other greatest football game of all time….10 yard fight.

It’s worth it, I guess. Why not Super Tecmo Bowl, which was clearly much better?
Anyways, something is better than nothing.

yes, yes, and yes. i have even stated this in another post that i haven’t played sports games since the tecmo sports series. i like the simple nature of the games and also wouldn’t mind updated versions for the wii as long as they keep the gameplay simple. all the other aspects of the game could be more in depth, i just want to be able to throw the ball to the right person

How can you remake a classic? It just can’t possibly work, the original is so simple.

So, can we say Multiplayer Tecmo Bowl? I have college friends with Wii’s, and I have to admit it would be tempting to call them up and set up another weekend Playoff Series…

Great news. I’d love to see an updated DS version, particularly, with wireless/online multiplayer. Instant buy for me.
