Rock Band for Wii debuts at #4, Guitar Hero: On Tour for DS at #1 on Amazon sales chart

For everyone (including myself) who wondered how Rock Band for Wii would fare, it debuted at number 4 on Amazon’s weekly sales chart. Here’s the top five:
5. Wii Play (Nintendo)
4. Rock Band Special Edition (EA Games)
3. Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Nintendo)
2. Wii Fit (Nintendo)
1. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo)
According to Gamasutra, these numbers include sales from third-party Amazon Marketplace sellers who are charging more than $60 for Mario Kart Wii and over $170 for Wii Fit.
In other sales news, Guitar Hero: On Tour debuted at #1 on the DS chart:
5. New Super Mario Bros. (Nintendo)
4. Brain Age (Nintendo)
3. Brain Age 2 (Nintendo)
2. Final Fantasy Tactics A2 (Square Enix)
1. Guitar Hero: On Tour (Activision)
Did you contribute to any of these sales this week?

Oh God that means people are actually buying Rockband for Wii. Shoot me now.

I am none too pleased with this news. Every rock band purchase is, most likely, a purchase taken away from the vastly superior Guitar Hero: World Tour. I only hope that sales drop through the basement, and when EA cries about nobody buying games for the Wii, GH comes out and sells like hotcakes. Why? Because the developers put time and resources into making an enjoyable experience on the Wii instead of porting a limped PS2 version.
I’m not a fan of rock band Wii.

I’m not a fan of Rock Band anything. Damn all these plastic peripherals are eating up crude oil supplies!
Seriously though…this game is not my cup of tea on any system. Nor are the other spin-offs. The only music game I have my eyes on is Wii Music. It will be a completely different and vastly superior experience. I like the sound of being able to write your OWN music…not pretend to play along to the same songs 500 times.

Last week Brawl sold about 40,000 copies, maybe a little less. Rock Band will be in the top 25 sales chart for a short time and fizzle out. Guitar Hero will be a mainstay on the Wii and Rock Band will be a side note at best. No worries, unless of course you bought Rock Band or worse still someone bought you Rock Band as a gift and you cannot return it.

lol
i asked the guy at gamestop if anyone had canceled their orders on news of gh4. he said they hadn’t.
looks like constrained supply held back the title from climbing higher on the chart, since amazon stopped taking preorders before launch. the title’s back in stock now though.
curiouser and curiouser, this wii demographic.

I feel really sorry for those buying RB for Wii
Are they totally unaware about GH4?
June 27th, 2008 at 2:08 pm
More than likely, they are unaware.
Only the geeks and otakus are aware of GHIV and its vastly superior package.

I didn’t. It seems like Nintendo shoppers love Amazon.

I’m pretty tired of all these “air musician” games myself, but to each his own. I just don’t see the lasting appeal. I guess the fact that I actually am a musician makes me not feel like “playing” a musician.

Rock Band for Wii actually sold copies?
*facepalm*

One of these days the sales of this games will die down….I for one have enough plastic instruments in my house and I’m not sure I want to buy a bunch more for Guitar Hero 4.

Ha! number 5.
I suspect the relatively poor sales will be used as an excuse to justify the miserable investment they’re undoubtedly pouring into what will be the delayed Wii iteration of Rock Band 2. “Obviously these games don’t really sell well on Wii” they’ll say. I would then encourage EA and Harmonix shareholders to sell up for shares in Activision instead.

elmer- amazon sold out. so… ??poor sales??
although, your schadenfreude is entertaining.
(i recently realized you get bonus points for using big words online)

What in the world does schadenfreude mean!?It says I misspelled it!
Anyway,I preordered GH:OT and I already have most of the other games.
I am happy to inform everybody that I will be getting GH:WT and never even glancing at rock band(it doesn’t deserve capital letters)unless I miraculously become a billionaire.I’ll stick with somewhat big words.
