Nintendo releases race for NiGHTS

For some reason, DS gets a bunch of vehicle/race games this week. Wii gets NiGHTS, which is a game that could probably sell well had it been released more than just one week before Christmas. Chalk another casualty up to the 2007 year end Wii game smorgasbord!
DS
MX vs. ATV Untamed
Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command
Corvette Evolution GT
Indianapolis 500 Legends
Wii
NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams

How does this game being released a week before Christmas prevent it from selling well? Many people are still doing their Christmas shopping so if anything, the release timing should be a boon to the game’s sales.
Besides, generally speaking, a good game should be able to stand on its own and not rely on strategically positioned release dates for sales.

Actually, most people are done with their Christmas shopping by now, I think. And the people who aren’t, generally already know what they’re going to get for people. That’s why no good games usually release this close to Christmas every year.
That said, I’m going to buy NiGHTS.
…but I’m going to buck the trend and let someone get it for me for Christmas, instead.

samfish, leave NiGHTS well alone. Or give it a try first. It’s really a cleverly disguised Anubis II.
Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Sooooo many big titles in the game world out this Fall/Winter.
I hope this game gets the attention it deserves.

@Fairlady Z - I meant more that it would be overshadowed by higher profile games (like Super Mario Galaxy) more so than it being right before Christmas.

does anyone have a clue that has played the new NIghts game if its any good? just curious with someone who hasn’t played the original Nights, and someone who has played it also, what their take is on it. some of the previews i read said that the game uses no motion controls whatsoever. that is a bit of a turn off to me, but i haven’t played the game yet. similar to the new fire emblem, i think that could seal the deal for a lot of people.

“Actually, most people are done with their Christmas shopping by now, I think.”
Tell that to the 8,000 people I saw at the mall when I went shopping on Friday.
“And the people who aren’t, generally already know what they’re going to get for people.”
As long as we’re pulling out random anecdotes, I’ll just go ahead and say that I waited until a couple days ago to do my shopping and I had no clue what I was going to get anyone.

I don’t care what anybody says…I’m getting this game…the only true fault egm gave this game is that you’ll probably have to take out your gamecube controllers or classic controllers to really enjoy…I don’t care..I really enjoyed it on Saturn and all I used was a lousy D-Pad. Can’t wait till tomorrow….or Wednesday…(knowing slow as heck gamestop…)
