MLB Power Pros 2008 - Coco Crisp at bat

It’s time for New Game Get, now with links to information about the games!

Wow, not a lot this week so hopefully WiiWare will hold something for us on Monday. For now, check out this week’s new releases:

DS
Air Traffic Chaos

Wii
King of Clubs
MLB Power Pros 2008
Puzzler Collection
Summer Athletics

After watching some videos of it, I definitely want to check out MLB Power Pros 2008.  Anything here look enticing?

I played MLB Power Pros 2007 and, while impressed with it’s manic stat tracking and full rosters (including notable minor leaguers), was overall unenthused about the package. I think it came down to playing with what looked like miis. Don’t get me wrong - it wasn’t a problem for me with WiiSports, but I was just looking for something a little more realistic - not to mention the players rarely resembled the actual players beyond skin tone.

As I recall, it also didn’t use motion pitching outside of one mode which did not include season or franchise. I had more fun with Major League Baseball 2k8, but that has some pretty major flaws itself - and seems to be considerably more poorly reviewed.

That said, I’m sure Power Pros is right up someone’s alley (had a friend whose entire family loved it) and I might’ve just gotten lost in the options.

MLB PP 2008 looks like a fun game, but for me it will all come down to the actual game play. If it’s anything like The Bigs, then forget it, I don’t want anything to do with it. but, if it’s not so difficult to pitch or throw the ball to the base that you want it to go, then it might not be so bad.

I own the original MLB PP, and I love it. Have logged over 90 hours with the game. True, the game lacks motion controls besides the exhibition and home run derby modes, but they are unneeded. The game was a fun a fun story mode, which is supposed to be improved this year, and the franchise mode is a lot of fun.

If you didn’t pick up the original, I would pick this up. I never pick up a sports game of the same series two years in a row, never enough changes, but I do highly recommend this game.

The only downside I read still exists to a point is a little slowness with the fielding, but it only bothers you maybe 1 or 2 times a game when you are like “wow, why is my guy so slow to react.” It’s negligible.

    I’m still hoping for SBCG4AP.

    What is SBCG4AP?

Anyway, although MLBPP is great, the new one does not seem different enough to get if you already have last years.

It’s a really fun baseball game, my favorite so far. In fact, I almost bought a Japanese GBA powerpro game at the import mart the other day just because it was so fun. It’s a great series - but it needs more wii specific features. If PP had a Wii-Sports option, as immerssive as sports baseball (that is, the angle YOU hold the bat is the angle the CHARACTER holds the bat, the force of YOUR swing is directly proportional not your CHARACTER swing, etc etc) then I would be down for a new edition, but as is it just feels tacked on and lame.

Great game for the classic controller though. Fantastic. If “realistic” baseball simulations don’t do it for you and you want a fun baseball game, pick up last years title or the new 2008 one, and you won’t be disappointed.

MLB Power Pros WTF are you doing? You DO realize the Wii is all about motion controls right? Two years in a row you have dropped the ball. My only hope is that somebody will pick that ball up and throw it at your big fat face.

    nope not a thing.
