Konami announces Elebits sequel for DS

The exciting game of hide and seek allows players to find, capture and befriend the tiny creatures known as Elebits who serve as energy sources in a far-off world where energy resources have been depleted.
In Elebits: The Adventures of Kai and Zero, players seek out the mischievous omega Elebits who hold magical powers and the ability to complete puzzles and quests while embarking on a magical journey. Utilizing each of the Elebits’ special powers, players can solve puzzles, reveal hidden paths, freeze flowing water, turn darkness into light, levitate rocks, and much more. As an added bonus, players are also able to compete head-to-head using the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection™ and battle up to four friends simultaneously.

Nice! The first game on Wii was awesome, though I would prefer a console sequel.

Saw a screen shot, it’s a top-down 2D (2.5D?) game, looks like Phantom Hourglass a lot actually. I guess what we’ll be seeing is a walk with the directional pad a grab/throw stuff with the touch screen… it could work.
But I agree with Blake, I would have preferred a more fleshed out, less laggy (the action would slow down a lot when there were a lot of moving things onscreen) console sequel. I enjoyed the original Elebits, awful voice acting and all. It had a certain charm that I liked.

Good that they finally made an announcement about it.
Even though it was posted in a Nintendo Power about 3-4 months ago; I promptly pre-ordered it then.
Talking to Gamecrazy, the release date for Elebits 2 is:
August 12th.
A little over a month left until this awesomeness hits the DS!

I’m just curious if anyone has ever done this before released a game on a home console and then released the direct sequel on a hand held? I mean a bunch of sequels have been released on hand helds, but not one that i can think of was a direct sequel. I wonder how well this will work in the sense of giving you the experience the original did? I haven’t played the first and from what I’ve read here I should’ve.

I have mixed feelings about this one.
I am thrilled to see an Elebits sequel. I’ve been raving about Elebits since it released. However, I was also hoping to see this on Wii. Rumors a while back reported on Infendo suggested a Wii sequel…hopefully, there’s another announcement on the way.
