Is Nintendo’s fall press conference a Megaton?
Wednesday, October 10th, 2007 at 9:06am by Jack
OK, so Megaton is overused, tired and lost its impact long ago. But I’m bringing it back! Why? Because I think the Nintendo Conference 2007 Fall press conference has just enough new info to be considered such an event.
A summary provided by Infendo’s own, David:
Sonic in Brawl
Online co-op mode in Brawl (no details)
WiiFit in Japan on 12/1 for 8800 yen
Mario Kart for Wii will include motorcycles!
WiiWare titles include:
- Pokemon Bokujou (Pokemon Farm)
- Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Young King and the Promised Land
- Star Soldier R
- Doctor Mario
- a Bandai Namco word puzzle game
DS demo downloads via Wii are coming
New Fire Emblem for DS is coming
New game: Super Mario Stadium Baseball for Wii
We knew about Sonic earlier this morning, but some of those other bits are a ton of mega, as far as I’m concerned. And quick, who can convert yen to dollars?

I believe that’s about $75.

8 800 Japanese yen = 75.0464 U.S. dollars
Thank you google

Sonic? WiiWare? DS Downloads? Although there have long been rumors and hopes surrounding these topics, this confirmation sounds like Megaton announcements to me!
That said, it’s about time some big news broke. Sony has been making announcements left, right, and center — PSP downloadable content? sweet! — finally getting some breaking news from Nintendo is more than welcome.

Realize, however, that pricing for games and peripherals can change in different countries. Just ask anyone in the UK…
Asking $75 US for Wii Fit in Japan doesn’t mean that North America will see the same pricing (although we can hope).

If this doesn’t qualify for megaton status, I don’t know what does? Its looking like Monster Hunter 3 may actually be a Wii exclusive. If thats true, this is huge.

Anyone else interested in the Motorbikes in Mario Kart? Sounds cool to me.
Also what’s this online co-op with Smash Bros. Brawl? I’m guessing it’s to do with the single player adventure thingymabob but come on Nintendo - it’s primarily a multiplayer game, you’ve got to make the standard matches online - especially now Sonic’s involved :P.

Yes, I believe this can effectively be called a Megaton.

Honestly, if MH3 is now a Wii exclusive….Jesus. Japan’s no longer the Land of the Rising Sun, it’s the Land of the…
I dunno. Something about how much they love Nintendo.

That Dr. Mario looks fantastic. I can’t wait for that.

“New Fire Emblem for DS is coming”
this is megaton in my book =)

@ryan,
It seems that the Fire Emblem for the DS is actually a remake of the original FE for the NES with the newer FE interface.
A resounding Hell Yeah.
However, this does mean that we may have to wait, as usual, until GDC, or even E3, in 2008 for more News.

With all the cool sounding Wii Ware titles that will eventually come out, Nintendo better announce a firmware update for using an external HDD, proprietary or not.
I’m really most excited about the DS download thing. Sure, Sonic is Brawl is great news, but everybody and their mother knew it was coming when …Olympic Games was announced. I don’t even care about the “september surprise” anymore, today’s news was awesome.

well now they just need to resolve the issue of the wii having too little flash memory. i don’t know about you guys, but with all the firmware updates, and updates in general along with VC games, i’m starting to run out of space. and this idea of moving files back and forth from SD card to system is garbage, as well as deleting files and then downloading the files again on the wii shopping channel. that is not acceptable. how are people expected to download these new wiiware titles. they’re going to lose a lot of money if they don’t come out with a solutions, especially now with neo geo titles just coming out.

I *LOVED* Mario Baseball for the GameCube. In fact, my son and I still play it every now and again. Mario Baseball for Wii is FANTASTIC NEWS. It sounds like there was something for just about everyone in this announcement.

Sadly I am most pumped about wiiware’s Dr. Mario. Now if they offer online play for wiiware games (crosses fingers).
Crystal Chronicles: city builing rpg? I hope that means strategy and can they release a tactics game for the love of all that is good and holy?

True, true. But at least we’re looking at a ballpark figure for other regions.

Retodd: According to IGN, WiiWare’s Dr. Mario has confirmed WiFi online play! This suggests that other titles with have similar features…

There are only two other announcements that could have been bigger than this:
1. Hard drive or some other storage solution
2. Voice chat/headset
I still have hope that those will eventually come, but for right now this is some really good stuff. Online Dr. Mario will soon become a household favorite.

Considering how giddy I’ve been all day from hearing all this great news, my vote is for M3G@T0N!!1!

Don’t forget about Bomberman and Joysound (Karaoke).
