The portable version of Guitar Hero was released for DS today. Did you get it? What do you think? And look forward to Infendo’s review coming soon!

personally i’d much rather spend my $50 on gh aerosmith, but my little sister is planning on getting it.
all the reviews i’ve read have been positive, especially IGN’s.

I picked it up on Tuesday from Circuit City and I’ve been enjoying it so far. The easy and normal difficulties are both pretty much cakewalks, but hard and extreme are the more traditional “oh God I’m developing carpal tunnel right now” experiences of Guitar Hero that you know and love.
The setlist is good, even if 25 songs is pretty slim for a GH game. They’re good songs, though, generally speaking, and either original recordings or good covers (except for La Grange, which is awful). There are at least 10-12 songs that I enjoy playing over and over, which is quite good IMO.
And the peripheral really does work well to replicate the Guitar Hero experience. I haven’t played multi yet, but single-player has me very satisfied. I wouldn’t hesitate to pick it up if Guitar Hero on the go is interesting to you.

I’ve played through the first 3 sets. The peripheral is ok, once you find a position that makes you comfortable. The sound through the speakers does the job well, but headphones show up the poor quality sound. I would have preferred they dropped it to mono if that could have beefed up the quality.
I don’t think it replicates the Guitar Hero experience, like the comment above… it replicates the Guitar Hero mechanics.
But, when you are in the zone of a song, it still captures the fun very well and I’m not regretting the purchase at all.

I guess I was surprised to see the $50 price when I was at Best Buy yesterday. Can’t say I’m much interested in this game, other than to hear what Will has to say about it in his review.

Is it really so fun pretending to play guitar that people need to do it on the go?! Guitar Hero has gone way beyond overboard. Now those punks you see at the electronics stores thinking they’re all cool playing at the Kiosks will be EVERYWHERE! (A word to the wise, you’re not cool or you wouldn’t be hanging out at Toys R Us playing on a fake guitar). I can smell Rock Band DS just around the corner…using 2 stylus’ as drum sticks. Oh the money to be made.

@TWhite - overboard? Nah, that’s this thing:

I’m having fun with it so far. My only complaint, aside from the short track list, is that the volume on the songs isn’t very high even when using headphones. That is all fixed when I hook it up to an amp, however!

Overboard? Some people would say any game more involved than Pac Man is taking it overboard. We all have personal preferences. You don’t find it fun to play a video game guitar, don’t.
To me its not so much being able to play it any time any where, but joining two things I really enjoy: the DS and GH. I play my DS @ home probably more than outside the home, because I love it. It has little to do w the portability factor.
But anyhow, bottom line, don’t like a game, don’t play it. Dollar vote is how the companies decide what we get. You want Pac Man (metaphorically speaking) buy Pac Man. I personally love the unique as much as some of the standards so I try to support their efforts w my dollar.
