DS sells 10 mil in Japan; You’d think it’d be more

Respected Japanese publication Famitsu announced today that Nintendo hit the 10 million sold milestone in Japan for the DS Lite. It also did it in record time selling more than two times faster than the mega-selling PS2 for the same period.
Not sure how high the total is including DS phats, but I would have sweared this would have been more. Don’t the Japanese buy like a half mil of these things per day?

Bare in mind that’s very nearly one 10th of the entire population of japan, that’s pretty impressive, and as you said, that doesn’t include the regular DS.

Yeah, that figure seems low considering it is only about a twelfth of the total population, and that about one fifth of all Japanese are over the age of 65!
Japan, what’s up with all those 15 million that haven’t bought a DS Lite to play Brain Age?? Oh, you mean they bought a DS phat? When are they going to upgrade to the DS Lite, huh??

Also keep in mind that the DSL has only been out for a little more than one year.
