Darkrai Availible at Nintendo World Store

Monday, June 2nd, 2008 at 10:10pm by Will

DarkraiIn case you happened to miss the chance to snatch Darkrai, a rare Pokémon, at the Toys R Us event this past weekend. You now have another chance to get your hands on him, that is if you happen to live close to New York City.

The Nintendo World Store will be giving out the nightmare Pokémon via the usual wireless download that the Pokémon Nintendo Store has been known to do with the previous versions of Pokémon. They will also be giving him out for the entire month of June, so don’t fret if you don’t have any time this week to go.

I got mine at Toys R Us, it was pretty fun. I got there late Sunday right after I got off work, and I don’t think the Toys R Us closest to me gets very much business, so there weren’t a ton of people there. Some lady walked up to me and gave me a $5 off coupon for any DS game (Which I used to buy my sister a Nintendogs game, after she saw the Carrie Underwood ads on TV she really wanted to play it) and a little type chart thingy. Having never received any promotion Pokemon before, it was pretty cool. Although, I really think it would be awesome if they could get it to work over the Nintendo Channel on the Wii. It helped give me a little pickup on my interest in Pokemon, though. I hadn’t played Diamond for months, and I picked back up on filling up my Pokedex where I left off.

Also, I got a really awesome 1-up Mushroom filled with candy. I picked green! http://www.geekalerts.com/u/mario-candy.jpg

Quick, hurry, the people doing these promo’s got their heads in their (Censored) and aren’t getting oxygen in their brains! Perhaps after a few hours they will actually do these events on a WIFI NETWORK!

    @ Atlantis1982:

These types of events are not meant to promote only Pokemon. Think of the business Toys R us got for this. (Of course, I’m sure they sold a few copies of Diamond and Pearl because of the promotion.)

Me? I’m not a “Gotta Catch ‘em All” kinda guy. I like my copy of Pearl Version and play it occasionally, but I don’t feel the need to fill my Pokedex or my PC boxes or anything. Plus, I’m pretty sure you can’t find every Pokemon in existence within the two versions. Something tells me you have to have older versions to get some of the other critters. It bums me out a bit, but I’ll live.

Like Rabbitduck, I too got my Darkrai around 2 PM at my local Toys R Us. The cashier almost thought I was out of my mind when I asked her if there was supposed to be some percentage off discount off of Pokemon Emerald, which I also picked up. Cause I remember seeing some kind of article in a Nintendo Power magazine that said that some Pokemon games including Pokemon Emerald would be on sale on that weekend. All in all, once I got home, I’ve been raising it ever since.

I agree and think it would be a good idea to do promos like this online with the Wii’s Nintendo Channel. Sadly, however, that’s not going to bring business into stores like Toys ‘R’ Us… and I think that’s largely the point.

@ Rabbitduck - That 1-UP candy-filled mushroom is very cool.
