Was Super Mario Bros. 3 just a stage show? Or was it something so much more?

I can’t believe that never really occurred to me. The motif seems pretty obvious now.

And the real Paul McCartney died in a car crash in 1969.

Not a conspiracy, just seriously excellent art direction! That’s one of the reasons I still think Mario 3 is better than Super Mario World.

    Existentialism FTW!

This is just a bunch of conspiracy theory crap. They debunked this on Mythbusters last week.

HEY GUYS DID U KNOW SUPER MARIO BROTHERS 2 WAS JUST A DREAM????

    OMG THESE ARE SHOCKING REVELATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For real, I and everyone I know knew this when we were six years old.

Super Mario World is just a story. One is real, 2 is a dream, 3 is a play, and 4 is a story/tv show. The narrator could vouch for that. The 3 pic did blow my mind though.

So Mario 3 was really like the Beatles SGT Peppers… in many ways

Huh, I never really picked up on that art direction before. I guess it makes a lot of sense. It also pairs up nicely with Paper Mario: TTYD’s on-stage battle system.

    I feel so defeated. =(

Nah but really, that’s interesting as heck.

Sgt. Pepper was quite possibly the greatest album of the Beatles extraordinary body of work. If I had to give that distinction to a Mario game, it would have to be Super Mario 64. That game truly revolutionized not just Mario, but gaming itself, just as Sgt. Pepper did for music. Mario Bros. 3 was a great game, but I think Mario 64 was more revolutionary.

What ever the case, Chicago, I like your allusion to the Beatles. ^_^

If I compared Mario Bros. 3 to a Beatles album, it would probably be A Hard Day’s Night. They were both the ‘third.’ By the third time around, they had learned from their earlier experiences, built and expanded upon them, and were able to come out with a masterpiece that was arguably their best work up to that point. (Though if I was forced to choose, I’d have Please Please Me over A Hard Day’s Night, and Super Mario Bros. over Mario Bros. 3.)

So, what about the NEW Super Mario Bros.?! HUH?! HUH!!?!?

    That’s stage left.
