Vote Shiggy into the TIME 100 if you must

Monday, April 23rd, 2007 at 2:54pm by Staff

TIME is accepting votes for the “100 most influential people in the world today… spanning politics, business, the arts, science and more,” for their TIME 100 list. Nintendo’s Miyamoto is a candidate and you can vote for him here if you dig what he does. Note: the blogger in me must curb your enthusiasm by reminding you that this is a list for the most important 100 people. But hey, if you think Shiggy has the artist skills to pay the bills, have at it.

Disclosure: I voted for him. (Me = Fanboy)

Being that Nintendo is right now at the top mostly because of the DS success, I would put Yokoi or Yamauchi above Miyamoto…

But since TIME’s list has to include only people that are alive, and Miyamoto is the one everyone knows the most, my vote will go to him, also!

“CON: His perfectionist tendencies often result in games being significantly delayed and, despite the Wii’s gameplay innovation, its graphics are far behind the competition.”

The second part of TIME’s “con” for Miyamoto is irrelevant to the conversation over whether or not MIYAMOTO is a top 100 candidate. He delays games, yes, but calling out the console’s horsepower has nothing to do with him designing games. If anything that part is a CON for the Wii, not Miyamoto.

yokoi had nothing to do with the DS which is nothing like the gameboy except that its portable. yokoi was very important years ago, and should get a lifetime achievement award for that, but even then i wouldnt say he was any more important then miyamato.

also, yamauchi is not in charge of nintendo any more, nor does he do more then advise, is this a list of all time 100 most important people ever, or today, which means people making choices that affect today and tomorrow.

i thought of Iwata as he is in charge of nintendo and says what each group can work on, yet to be honest, miyamoto does the most at the company where it matters.

i dont know how many people know, the magazine may not, but miyamoto does not only develop some of the best games in the industry and oversee many of nintendos popular games that are turning non-gamers into gamers, he also oversees production of console remotes for wii, and i know gamecube, maybe n64.

he is very influencial then, in a product that is arguably revolutionising gaming, and also affecting things outside of gaming. look at the many things people are doing with the remote, or the wii/remote outside of gaming, remote controlled robot arm, toys, musical areas, excercise programs.

he is very important to the world of today and tomorrow for not just touching the lives of gamers, but working with iwata to touch the lives of everybody in the world.

I voted 100 for Shiggy and a big fat ONE for Colbert… get him out of that number one spot.

    Ooops!

Sorry, guys, I just saw that Richard Dawkins is also on the list… There’s no way I can vote for Shiggy above Richie!

    OK, I’ll give Miyamoto a ‘91′ and Dawkins a ‘99′… how’s that?

Shigeru Miyamoto is currently ranked #2! How cool would it be if he took number 1?

Stephen Colbert has the same average rating as Miyamoto’s, so it is possible. Colbert has way more votes though.

Just behind Miyamoto is J.K. Rowling of Harry Potter fame.

If we want to boost Miyamoto to #1,
instead of telling people here at Infendo to vote, somehow tell people in other forums that are unrelated to video games to vote for the creator of Donkey Kong and master game designer for the Wii. “Blue Ocean” if you will. Just like our favorite console.

    . . .
Ok this just in as I’m writing this. Shigeru’s #1 with an 88 rating! I was refreshing the page to check. He’s now beating Colbert, who’s at 87.

Ummm, . . . nice work guys! Doing the job before I even finish typing this. :)
