Could Wii Party be the New Mario Party?

IGN recently put up an article detailing some information regarding Wii Party. A game that was announced at an investor meeting by Satoru Iwata.

“Nintendo has not launched a marquee party game since Mario Party 8, launched in summer 2007,” said Iwata during the briefing. “However, since Wii is usually being played by several people at once and the global sales of Mario Party have reached 7.6 million units, a party title has great potential.”

From the details that were release… Wii Party is a game that will of course use all the mii’s on your system. While pitting them against various Mario Party-esque mini games. Now, I know Mario Party is a huge franchise and many people love that game. but the real question is…

Without the Mario characters would this be a game you would be looking forward too?
