Nintendo Spotting - Balance Board Kitty Edition

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008 at 1:40am by Jake

This spotting comes from Infendo Reader David. R who claims that his cat has some serious table tilt skills in Wii Fit. However, the “obese” data on the TV isn’t promoting the cat’s two week long workout. Try laying off the catnip, fatty!

JK. We kid the cats…

Sign up for a Cellphone Contract get a Wii

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008 at 1:59pm by Will

Germany FlagSo apparently in Germany obtaining a Nintnendo Wii or a copy of Wii Fit is as easy as singing up for a 2 year cell phone contract. Now most of us would be very weary of deals like this, waiting for the catch as to why you would get a system for free. Well the deal here is that you would get a pre-owned refurbished old cellphone instead of getting brand new ones. So if you don’t mind getting a crummy old cell phone which is not technologically up to date with all those fancy bells and whistles, but want to enjoy some Wii gaming this might be the chance for you.

Special Thanks to my tipster in Germany, Frank.

WiiFit video on Current TV

Boss pays for employee’s WiiFit

Saturday, June 7th, 2008 at 7:23am by David

Wii Fit Balance BoardIf you can even get your hands on one, Red Mozzie may have come up with a way to get a WiiFit on the cheap:

[My] office has a health and fitness policy, which allows employees to claim an allowance of $150 per year for fitness-related equipment or services: sports clothes, gym memberships, that sort of thing. Well, I submitted my form to apply for a reimbursement for Wii Fit. And it came through no problems …

I know the Infendo health plan only covers a swift kick in the butt from Blake, but this seems fairly legit as a piece of exercise equipment.  Do you think you could get away with this at work?

WiiFit is it! Really, it’s the only game being released in stores for any Nintendo’s systems this week. Nothing is coming out for DS at all.

Are you picking up the next big thing?

Expert ‘aghast’ at idea of Wii Fit for kids

Friday, May 16th, 2008 at 12:54pm by Jack

225_fat_1.jpgVideo games just can’t win. First, it was violence. Then, sex. And today? It seems as though one expert believes Wii Fit will kill it some young kids something fierce.

Tam Fry of the National Obesity Forum is calling for children to be banned from Wii Fit.

I’m absolutely aghast that children are being told they are fat… BMI is far from perfect but with children it simply should not be used… A child’s BMI can change every month and it is perfectly possible for a child to be stocky, yet still very fit… I would be very concerned if children were using this game and I believe it should carry a warning for parents.

In my limited American experience, kids on average are fat these days. Many of them are obese, in fact. BMI is still a wonky measurement for certain body types, I’ll give her that, but if Wii Fit can influence these kids’ parents somehow, and better their lifestyles even just a little bit that way, I’m all for it.

And, Tam? Can i call you Tam? I think they’ll survive a little ribbing from a Mii avatar on a video game system, I does. Just a hunch.

Nintendo, done in the Biblical sense

Thursday, May 15th, 2008 at 9:50am by Jack

225_four_horsemen.jpgIf you don’t read Sean Malstrom, you should. If that makes me sound like his official cheerleader, then so be it.

On his homepage today, Malstrom juxtaposes the Book of Revelations and four key Nintendo executives. The results are humorous, telling, and 100% enjoyable to read.

Come and see, the voice said to me. I looked up, honked my trumpet again, and lo! Come and see! said the voice again, for another horseman approached. This horse was all black, the rider could barely be seen, and he held scales.

Reggie laughed and said, “I am the Horseman of Disruption,” and he used the scales on the market that showed where the profit is and where the sales were.

He’s been doing a run-up to the launch of Wii Fit, which, for all intents and purposes, will disrupt gaming almost as much as the console it was built for.

Will Wii soon own over 50% of worldwide console market?

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008 at 5:47pm by David

consolesalesmay2008.jpg

VGChartz is the source of the graph that shows us 45% of worldwide current gen consoles on the market are Wii.  Wii Fit seems poised to push Wii sales past the 50% mark.  Do you think the hype surrounding its North American release later this month will spur a slew of new console sales?

The Wii Fit Balance Board is a console

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008 at 12:15pm by Jack

225_japan-wii-fit-box.jpg“I have an idea for an Infendo post you should do…”Sean Malstrom

And so began this simple post on an extraordinary idea. Perhaps a bit crazy too, but then again all disruptive technologies are labeled as such before they’re accepted en masse.

The idea? That the Balance Board packaged with Wii Fit isn’t an accessory at all. It’s a console, just the like Wii or even the PlayStation 3.

You were wondering when Nintendo would update the Wii? Unveil a Wii 2? Good news: The Wii Balance Board is it.

Miyamoto to gamers: Go outside! (and online Wii Fit is coming soon)

Monday, April 28th, 2008 at 11:50am by Jack

250_wii_balanceboard_20070711_01.jpgNintendo guru Shigeru Miyamoto realizes there are parallels to be drawn between Wii Fit and real, live actual exercise, so he wants to make sure you understand that there’s no substitute for going outside and “moving around.”

“Spending too long, staying in and playing any video game is not good,” said Miyamoto. “I always tell my children to get out on a sunny day and I, myself, went jogging in Central Park yesterday. But I do my stretching on Wii Fit. They work together.”

This is just a sample of what amounts to a pretty good interview with Miyamoto. Take a look when you get the chance. Another sample: “Web-enabled Wii Fit Balance boards will be hooked up to the internet to enable users to compete live against anyone, anywhere. If Miyamoto has his way, we’ll all be doing press-ups at dawn and comparing ourselves with millions of others.”

So I bought Wii Fit today

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008 at 1:14pm by Jack

Wii FitToday I went ahead and took advantage of a $5 credit on my Amazon account — as well as the lack of sales tax on Internet transactions and Free Super Saver shipping — and pre-ordered Wii Fit.

All the signs and portents say this thing is going to be huge, and I didn’t want to miss out while my neighbors, parents and sisters got their fitness on without me. Some game-related reporting I did elsewhere on the Net today says that the fitness peripheral is already sold out in the UK at no less than five major retailers, and I highly doubt that fad-crazed Americas will be any different. Japan already fell in love, selling 1.4 million in roughly four months. Early previews from the blogs read something like this: “I was meh, then I tried it hands-on. It was actually kind of interesting.” Sounds like something else from the recent past, no? (more…)

WiiFit launches on May 19

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008 at 9:34am by Press Release

Wii Fit demonstrates Nintendo’s commitment to gamers of all kinds. It combines fun and fitness for every member of the family to keep active and play together. Wii Fit launches May 19 in the United States and comes with the weight-and-motion-sensing Wii Balance Board that Nintendo representatives demonstrated could hold great promise for future game development as well. Third-party publishers are already working on new games and applications that will make use of the Wii Balance Board. Additionally, Wii Fit includes access to the Wii Fit Channel, an interactive channel that lets users check in each day to track their fitness progress through weight and BMI. In Japan, Wii Fit has sold more than 1.4 million units since its Dec. 1 launch.
