Infendo goes hands-on with MySims Kingdom

Friday, September 26th, 2008 at 10:25pm by Derek

Our unofficial Sims Week ends today with a hands-on preview of MySims Kingdom. In case you missed them, we posted an in-depth preview of SimAnimals on Sunday, and we followed up Wednesday with one of the first SimCity Creator reviews to hit the Web.

For some, the term “sequel” carries a negative connotation. Another dose of the same content, a product with no innovation, milking the established rather than creating something new; originality sticklers often paint sequels with this unfortunate shade of contempt.

None of those presuppositions apply to MySims Kingdom.

EA’s Zwerling: Lack of online in MySims Wii “more of a Nintendo issue than on our end”

Thursday, September 25th, 2008 at 3:17pm by Derek

Electronic Arts charmed Nintendo fans last year with MySims, a cute new Sims spin-off franchise focused on building and construction.

The problem? No online. The reason?

According to EA’s Erik Zwerling, MySims’ lack of online was “more of a Nintendo issue than on our end.”

As we’ve been reporting all week, Infendo visited EA Friday for a look at several upcoming Sims games, including a PC version of MySims.

Showed by Zwerling, the upcoming PC remake makes several notable improvements over the Wii version, including enhanced graphics, more content and the removal of frame rate stuttering. It also has online multiplayer for community minigames and creations, something that would’ve cured the loneliness of the otherwise enjoyable Wii game.

“Nintendo isn’t supporting the developers in that area enough,” said Zwerling. “So doing that isn’t viable at the moment.”

EA has not added online to MySims Kingdom, the upcoming kind-of-a-sequel to MySims scheduled to release on Wii next month. We’ll have an in-depth hands-on preview on Infendo tomorrow.

Review: SimCity Creator (Wii)

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008 at 6:29pm by Derek

As part of our unofficial Sims Week, we’re bringing you an early review of SimCity Creator for Wii. In case you missed it, we posted an in-depth preview of SimAnimals on Sunday, and we’ll be finishing up with a hands-on preview of MySims Kingdom on Friday.

Infendo visited Electronic Arts headquarters Friday for a demo of SimCity Creator, the latest in the popular and elaborate city-building franchise. After the demo, EA provided us with a final retail copy of the Wii build, which released yesterday alongside a DS version.

We’ve been playing SimCity Creator extensively since, building towering cities and having almost as much fun destroying them, and we’re pleased to report SimCity has made a smooth jump to Wii.

At least, for the most part.

Infendo previews SimAnimals; EA wants you to be king of the forest

This week is unofficial Sims Week here on Infendo. It starts today with a preview of SimAnimals, and we’ll be following up Wednesday with an early review of the Wii version of SimCity Creator. Later this week, we’ll have a hands-on preview of MySims Kingdom.

Sims games have been a metropolitan affair since their inception, but Electronic Arts is ready to take the Sims for a walk on the wild side.

Infendo visited EA headquarters Friday for a demo of SimAnimals, the company’s newest Sims franchise heading to Wii and DS next January. A departure from the traditional people-focused Sims approach, SimAnimals challenges Sims veterans and newcomers alike to manage the only creatures more unpredictable than humans:

Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!
