Live from the Brawl launch!

9:00 Rainy night in Boston. Will Brawling at midnight bring sunshine in the morning?
9:18 A mob is hanging around outside the store. Maybe 20 people. No one seems to know what’s going on.
9:27 Mall security on a Segway makes us all feel safer. Really, it’s a pretty civil group so far.
9:51 I’m in the 10:30 tournament!
10:20 Rick from netjak.com is here in line with me. We just paid for our copies of Brawl and are waiting for the tournament to begin!
10:48 Tournament still hasn’t started. They’re having each player enter their name into the system before starting the first round. I’m starting to wonder if I’ll play before midnight.

Reminder: Brawl launches tonight!

Midnight Special: The Subspace Emissary

Friday, March 7th, 2008 at 4:22am by デール

subspace.jpg From the big NP to Famitsu, Super Smash Brothers Brawl has gotten full-score mag-reviews across the board, so there shouldn’t be too many multi-player gaming fans who are on the fence about picking this game up come tonight’s midnight releases-or tomorrow’s morning rush. It almost seems unnecessary to “review” the game as a whole. But now that the Wii isn’t so hard to get (especially in Japan), and simply having one doesn’t mean your house is swamped with rabid gamers every-weekend, I decided it might be important to shed some light on the single-player aspects of a very anticipated multi-player game. Without spoiling any of the fun!

Wii console sales boosted by casual, hardcore titles in Japan

Thursday, February 28th, 2008 at 11:56am by Jack

Wii Fit Super Smash Bros. Thanks to the one-two punch of titles like Super Smash Bros. Brawl and the quirky Wii Fit balance board, Nintendo has widened its lead in Japan over Sony’s PlayStation 3.

According to an article from Reuters today, Nintendo’s Wii game console outsold the PlayStation 3 nearly 4-to-1 in Japan in February despite Sony’s console beginning to narrow the gap last autumn. In addition to strong hardware sales, Wii software titles also dominated the best seller list. Super Smash Bros. Brawl led the software sales with 1.33 million units, followed by Wii Fit which sold 309,311 units in the four weeks.

According to Reuters, Enterbrain and the Japanese gaming mag Famistsu, the Wii’s lead on the PS3 appears to be widening. In February it was 4:1; in January, the Wii outsold the PS3 by almost 3-to-1. Nintendo sold 331,627 units of the Wii in the four weeks to Feb. 24, compared with 89,131 units of the PS3, market research firm Enterbrain said.

Microsoft, content to sell to that lucrative “niche collector’s market” in Japan, sold 14,079 Xbox 360 units in the February reporting period.
