Dead Rising

Dead Rising Wii-make dated, priced in Japan

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008 at 9:10am by Derek

Kotaku reports the Wii version of zombie-basher Dead Rising will be available Feb. 19 in Japan.

It will be priced at ¥7,340, which translates to approximately $75.

Critics have given denunciatory impressions of Dead Rising’s early Wii builds, mostly stemming from poor visuals and abhorrently low zombie totals on-screen.

Capcom built the Wii version, subtitled Chop Till You Drop, on the Resident Evil 4 engine, utilizing a similar over-the-shoulder camera view. The game utilizes motion controls for much of the combat.

Capcom announced in July it expects to sell 500,000 copies of Dead Rising on Wii. It has yet to announce a North American release.

New Dead Rising screens beat the dead horse

Famitsu has posted new screens of Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop. Reinforcing the reputation prior footage and hands-on previews have established, there is an alarming shortage of on-screen zombies.

Maybe they’re out trick-or-treating.

Capcom announced in July it expects to sell 500,000 copies of Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop. The game is set for a Q1 2009 release.

PS2 title suggests Dead Rising Wii is a cop-out

Friday, October 10th, 2008 at 5:19pm by Derek

We’ve heard ad nauseam Wii just isn’t powerful enough to replicate the massive zombie infestations of the original Dead Rising.

Above is a video comparison of Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop and Hitman: Blood Money, a two-year-old game running on a PS2. It originally surfaced in August, but it seems many of us missed it.

I won’t say a word. You can decide for yourself whether or not you believe Wii is less powerful than hardware developed a decade ago.

Kotaku slams, kicks and spits on Dead Rising

Friday, October 10th, 2008 at 12:59pm by Derek

Kotaku’s Luke Plunkett wrote a hands-on preview today of Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop.

“This game is a waste of time.”

He begins with that line, a fitting follow to his “Dead Rising Wii is a terrible, terrible idea” headline, and things get progressively worse.

Obviously, he wasn’t impressed:

The whole point of the first Dead Rising was that there was hundreds of zombies. Because they were slow, and stupid, and slow, it was the sheer weight of numbers that provided not only the challenge, but the enjoyment. Zombie survival fantasies don’t involve evading/killing two zombies, they involve evading/killing thousands of them.

You know how many zombies I saw on-screen at one time? Six. Six zombies. And that’s not in a room or a store, that’s across the massive concourse at the start of the game.

Infendo has also played the game, and for a similarly unpleasant set of impressions, check out Sean’s hands-on feature from Tuesday.

Infendo Hands-On - Dead Rising: Cream of the Flop

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008 at 10:18pm by Sean

I’m a big fan of zombie mayhem, and with the Xbox 360 hovering just above my price range, I’ve been eagerly awaiting Dead Rising: Chop ‘till you Drop. Screenshots of the Wii version have been heavily criticized for having bad graphics, and not being able to simulate zombie hordes of the same size as its 360 predecessor. I’m sorry to say that despite some valiant efforts, the “Trial Version” on demo at Nintendo’s Fall Media summit lived up to the negative hype.

Hit the jump to find out why.

Dead Rising Wii: Chop Till You Drop - Weapon Footage

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008 at 2:44am by Jake

I know well and good that the Wii is an underpowered console, and that Dead Rising is a large Xbox 360 game, but these animations look like crap. I can count at least 10+ bugs in this one video.

Come on Capcom! We thought you were the king of solid ports! N64 visuals are over!

Capcom bringing Dead Rising to Wii

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008 at 8:40am by Derek

Detractors be damned, Capcom is again porting an old game to Wii.

As revealed in the latest issue of Famitsu, Kotaku is reporting today Capcom is bringing Dead Rising to Wii. Like Okami and Resident Evil 4 before it, Dead Rising appears to be a direct and unaltered port on Wii.

Originally released for Xbox 360 in Aug. 2006, Dead Rising follows the harrowing adventures of Frank West, a photographer trapped inside a shopping mall in a zombie-infested Colorado town. Players control West as he uses surrounding objects to brutalize zombie scum, save survivors and uncover the reasons for the undead infestation.

No release date was specified. Expect more from Capcom soon.
