Windy City to host “Wii Wars” all summer

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008 at 4:29pm by Derek

The Windy City forecast calls for an even windier summer this year, as Chicago locals will be swinging Wii Remotes all summer long.

Harry Caray’s Tavern in Chicago is hosting free “Wii Wars” every Tuesday through Aug. 26.

Wii Wars brings locals and Chicago sports icons together for a weekly night of Wii games and challenges. Participants compete for different prizes and play different games each week on a 123″ HD TV.

The event debuted June 17 with a Wii Sports home run derby against legendary Cubs slugger Ernie Banks. Other stars scheduled for Wii Wars include Pro Bowl defenseman Brian Urlacher, three-time NBA champion Dickie Simpkins and Cubs hall of famer Ryne Sandberg.

Wii Wars begin each Tuesday at 8:00 PM and end at 1:00 AM. For more information, check the Harry Caray’s Tavern Web site.

Nintendo art exhibition set for Australia

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008 at 7:38am by Derek

The Sydney Morning-Herald reports Goldie Marketing has organized a public art exhibition in Melbourne focused on Nintendo characters.

The inaugural Out of Controller art exhibition will open Sept. 10 at Melbourne’s iconic Fad Gallery. Entries are open to the public, and Goldie Marketing is encouraging Nintendo fans, young arts professionals and game designers to contribute to the exhibition.

Nintendo fans should be familiar with Goldie Marketing for its beautiful Nintendo figurines distributed worldwide by Corgi Int’l.

Entries will be judged by a panel of games journalists, designers and Nintendo of Australia executives. The grand prize winner will receive a cash prize of $2000 and a Nintendo Wii prize package. Even those without a knack for creativity may consider keeping the date; all entries will be on sale to the public during the exhibition.

The deadline for entries is Aug. 15. For more information, visit the official Out of Controller Web site.

Battle of the Bands contest winner announced!

Friday, May 23rd, 2008 at 12:35pm by Derek

bobwii.jpgTime’s up, folks! The deadline has passed, and the results are in.

But first, we would like to thank everyone who participated in our Battle of the Bands contest. Some great entries have been written since the contest started Wednesday, and most of the albums proposed would definitely be a blast to play in a Wii rhythm game. It was difficult to pick just one, so we narrowed it down to three finalists and, finally, a grand prize winner. Here are the results.

01. Phil Myth (Rush - 2112)
02. neko to kuruma (Bathory - Nordland I)
03. Keefe (Yes - Relayer)

Infendo reader Phil Myth wins with his entry for the legendary Rush album 2112. He gets a free copy of the Wii game Battle of the Bands compliments of THQ and Infendo. So Phil, be sure to send an e-mail with your mailing address to tips@infendo.com as soon as possible to claim your prize. And thanks for entering, everyone!

Crank the volume to 11, win Battle of the Bands

Here at Infendo, we love music almost as much as we do games. So for this contest, we want to hear from people who feel the same way.

What is your favorite album, and why would it make a fun addition to a future Wii rhythm game? To enter, simply post your selection and reasoning in the comments section. Keep it thoughtful, witty and brief; judging will be based on quality of arguments and writing, so entries should not exceed a few paragraphs at most.

The winner will receive a free copy of THQ’s exclusive new Wii rhythm game, Battle of the Bands. All non-contributing Infendo readers are eligible. The contest ends this Friday, so get your entries in soon!

NiGHTS contest - winner announced!

Friday, February 1st, 2008 at 9:08pm by David

Congratulations go out to Thomas from St. Louis, Missouri! He shared this crazy video game related dream with us and won a copy of NiGHTS for Wii:

In my dream, I was in Japan, outside of the nintendo studio where they are making Super Smash Brothers Brawl. I started shouting “Sakurai! Sakurai!”. Then some fellow nerds from Japan joined me and before I knew it we had a big group all shouting “SAKURAI! SAKURAI!” Then a Nintendo flag from in front of the building was lowered. For some reason, the lowering of this flag in my dream meant that the game had been completed. Shortly after, Sakurai walked out of the studio. Myself and all the fanboys that had been chanting with me cheered loudly and surrounded him. Then a UFO came out from the sky and crashed into a nearby railroad.

Thanks to everyone who entered. Be sure to go back and read through some of the entries for a good laugh!
