Comment of the Week: Where’s Malstrom?; DS love

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008 at 8:17am by Jack

Gametaku raises some good points today, so he/she gets comment of the week!

Where’s Malstrom? I originally joined the site after reading a few of his great expositions. Aren’t we overdue for another one? And what are his and sites current views on the DS? Obviously video game companies read this site and even espond to some of its’ articles. How abot calling out all of the Lumines sequels and the lack of true an online enabled Meteos (none of that Disney crap) for the DS? Why havn’t we’ve seen an adaptation of that wonderful game for the Wii? Mabe it’ll come via wiiware and allow for custom planet uilding and online Wii Play (I had to do that).

Meteos was seriously the game that made the DS click for me many years ago. It was fun, quirky, and used the stylus wonderfully — but I would have loved to have been able to play my DS-owning friends. As for Malstrom, he’s an enigma wrapped in a riddle blanketed in a limerick. Your guess is as good as mine!

Comment of the Week: Video game industry cynicism

Friday, January 25th, 2008 at 1:36pm by Jack

When we reported on how the video game industry outpaced both movies and music in 2007, one reader had a very informed, very spot on observation to make.

Jeff, take it away with the Infendo Comment of the Week:

I certainly hope they credit Wii and DS alone for this growth.

The growth rates of both the 360 hardware and the PS3 combined don’t even match the PS2’s, while the Wii is beating the PS2 single-handedly.

It is the utmost cynicism to pretend that the Wii and DS serves “another market” and then to suddenly count them amongst your rank and file when it’s convenient to boast about how big the games industry is.

Make up your mind, industry and third parties. Either the DS and Wii owners are gamers or not. They can’t be both at the same time.

In defense of publishers and the industry as a whole right now, let me say this: they’re confused and many of them were caught with their pants down. Hence, the lashing out at Nintendo and the criticism even in the face of now overwhelming evidence that they’re the ones in the wrong, and not Nintendo.

Another cynical observation: How is it that Nintendo can be stifling development on the Wii by holding back “secret info” because they’re the creators of the system? I find it ironic that those who use this argument were often the first to label the system “Gamecube 1.5.” If that were truly the case, developing games for the system would be easy, given the technology is so “dated.” And yet, people persist in saying the console is difficult to develop for because Nintendo holds the keys to the castle. Again, quoting Jeff, they can’t be doing both at the same time.

Comment Of The Week - Kale on BioShock vs Metroid Prime 3

Thursday, September 6th, 2007 at 12:33pm by David

Infendo reader Kale wins the coveted Comment Of The Week award, with his comparison of BioShock and Metroid Prime 3.

Last night, I played both Bioshock on the 360 and Prime 3 on the Wii. I played Bioshock for about 2 hours… It was okay (definitely not a perfect 10 game, Game Informer….), but suffers some serious art direction issues, janky animations, and none of the voices seem to match the characters very well. It’s just System Shock with a mucous membrane, nothing new or special. Luckily, my copy was a freebie from work, so no real loss. The whole time I’m playing it though, I kept comparing the game to Prime 3. Finally, I reached a checkpoint and turned off the 360. I put in Metroid and was once again reminded of the Metroid Prime series’ flawless color theory, lighting, and the new control scheme. I must say, after playing a conventional FPS and then immediately putting in Metroid, one begins to realize the true power of the Wii.

Infendo Comment of the Week

Sunday, June 10th, 2007 at 9:10pm by David

Comment Of The WeekThis week’s Infendo Comment of the Week comes from rokerovakero who had this to say about his favorite DS Wi-Fi Connections games:

I play them every couple days. I probably kicked so much international ass my boots smell like an airport bathroom. The smell of victory.

Congrats, rokerovakero, you’ve got bragging rights until the next edition of the Infendo Comment of the Week!
