Nintendo Power: Mega Man 9 coming to WiiWare
Thursday, June 26th, 2008 at 3:46pm by Jack
I’m pretty floored by this bit of Rockman news today. Apparently the Mega Man 9 retro game previously rumored for Xbox 360 and PS3 might be coming to WiiWare. And it’s going to feature literal retro grade graphics. As in the ones from the last true Mega Man game, which launched in 1996.
If it’s true, welcome back, Mega Man!

Tears of joy are running down my face.
COME BACK TO US MEGAMAN!

I’m so happy they’re putting it on the Wii. The rumors were really making it sound like it would be PS360 only.

I love that we’re seeing a return to more 2d and 2.5d style platform games. 3d is good stuff and all but I’m glad to see people are breaking away from it a bit. How fantastic would it be if retro did a 2d Metroid for example?

I hope this is true! I want Megaman 9!

I won’t post the boss names here for fear of spoilers, but want to say that they sound promising indeed.

Good choice. I don’t think the majority of the PS3/360 cares about MegaMan.

I was excited until I found out it was a fighting game. It looks like Bloody Roar, but without the transforming.

I hope they don’t treat the Wii like the DS.

Very NICE!!
It’s good to see Mega Man going back to his NES roots for Mega Man 9 ! Especially what makes this BETTER is that WiiWare will probably get it which sounds REAL SWEEEETT!! to me. Now, with this move, I can see a doorway opening up for other classic franchises to come out as a new possible sequel or REMAKES dating back to the Game Boy, NES or SNES. 2 games that I would want to see come next if this idea works would be a Super Mario Land for WiiWare in COMPLETE Color with new added cutscenes to fit in with the story. Just like how Nintendo tried it out with the Mario VS. Donkey Kong series. The 2nd I would want to see would be a TRUE SEQUEL done to the ORIGINAL Super Mario RPG back on the SNES. For some reason, I keep thinking that there was a cliffhanger at the end of the game that was never made with a sequel with Square & Nintendo again. Paper Mario tried, but to me was a COMPLETELY different story all in it’s own RPG. Heck, maybe a Super Mario Bros. 4 game would be cool. Hope you’re listening out there Miyamoto.

I am beyond thrilled to see Mega Man return…the true Mega Man, the original. But I’m not happy about the literal retro presentation.
